Gourde and Bjorky to TB... !?

If it's both Goujrde and Bjorkstrand I think there needs to be a first round pick or very good prospect coming back.

What does Tampa have that would interest us?

Is there anything off interest we have from TB? Conor Geekie? Or would that be too rich? They don't have their 1st round pick from 2025 so either it would be a good prospect or the 2026 1st round pick +.

Here are the Lightning prospects.

Isaac Howard would be interesting but I doubt that would happen.

Seattle Kraken legend Vitek Vanecek to the Panthers, which I guess ends the NHL roster spot for Seattle Kraken legend Chris Driedger.

Considering they don't have their 1st round pick for 2025, I would think it has to be a prospect. Francis going for a 1st round pick in 2026 would put us further back in our "rebuild". We need prospect(s) more than picks.

I don't know if we need prospects more than picks.

We've got our own prospects getting closer to the league(we could see a couple making their debut next season).

Overall I think we just need assets no matter if it's picks or prospects.

Ofcourse, either helps but I feel like the teams timeline is more aggressive. Assuming TBL does not fall of a cliff, they are likely to be very good next season as well and at best we get a pick in the 20-25 range. I would prefer getting a prospect closer to step in than wait till the 2028-29 season.

I'm ok with a 26 pick, that's a deep draft. I hear you tho, ideally we get a quality young player back that's not ready to contribute on a loaded vet cup team.

Well, of course you know more what you get with a prospect already in a teams system.

Still, even if it's a pick in the 20's next year, that's still a nice asset to have.

Anyways, let's see what will end up happening and if Ronnie listened to EmeraldCityHockey's podcast he'll retain on both Gourde and Bjorkstrand and increase the value. :naughty:

I'm prepared to be disappointed (I've also got a pit in my stomach now, the Bjorky loss is going to hurt bad).

But analytically this trade doesn't work unless it's Conor Geekie involved. Howard + Tampa 2026 1st is not nearly enough in my book.

If it's both Goujrde and Bjorkstrand I think there needs to be a first round pick or very good prospect coming back.

Even a 1st is nothing for that package. Gourde alone is pushing 1st value and Bjorkstrand alone is too good for a late 1st to be enough.

I 100% agree. Though there are folks on the main board considering Bjorkstrand as just a 50 pt player feel like there is no choice it would be work a prospect like Howard or Geekie.

If Bjorky and Gourde are both traded with 50% retention, I find it hard to argue that they are not worth either Geekie or Howard. That being said, folks always overrate picks and prospects over established NHL players, so there is that.

Yeah but I'm skeptical Howard + 1st even covers it. I'll admit that I haven't watched him since his draft year.

Gourde has been out for some time and was in decline over the last couple of years.
If we don't retain anything on Bjorkstrand that cap hit will make him less valuable.

Overall I'm curious to see what will happen but do like that Francis(the team seem to be willing to make more changes than just trading off UFA's.

Yeah. Not a fan either. Was hoping for a prospect but it is what it is. Value wise, I think 2 1st's is ok but it does not help us for years unless Francis plans on flipping those picks in the off-season for a good prospect(s) or players.

Well, those are assets we can either use to just draft guys or trade for another player/pick in another year.

It looks like a plain old rebuilding move.... which many of us claim to have wanted to see.
Wanted to see this 2 years back. LOL. But again, I am ok with this. Just delays us being very competitive but draft capital is always good to have. Whether we use it ourself or to improve the team quicker.

I am expecting Oleksiak gets moved too. And moving Bjorkstrand without cap retention, as per what the trade looks like right now, helps us next season. Whether that is taking on bad contract or something else.

Is it wrong that I won’t really miss either player? That playoff run seems like a million years ago, so getting picks for declining production is a good thing.
I’m curious if that’s it for the Kraken. It’s already been a more active TDL than usual for Francis, so what does this mean for the offseason?
