Seems like the Kings have made Brandt Clarke available.

They want a scoring wing(McCann?).

Should we be in for this?

I'm not sure myself. He's doing well, but is he what we need as our 3rd pair RD? I don't think he's beating out Larsson and Montour on the depth chart and both of those guys are going to be around for at minimum a couple more seasons of full trade protection. Nah. I think the focus needs to be on finding a major upgrade for Oleksiak, keeping Evans where he is to develop into something more or become an asset (like Borgen), and frankly... we still need to score goals and need to get a bit tougher.

Even if they stay for some time, I don't think you turn down a chance on a guy like that because of Larsson and Montour.

Larsson is statistically one of the worst defenders this season and Montour, as good as he's been, won't be anyhwere near that in about two years.

But yeah, I guess that's not happening.

:boredom:

Not even RUMORS!

It's the Francis way.

Plus, our team's coverage sucks anyways.

Sounds like Rantanen may be going to Dallas and extend to 8 x 12M. Dallas gonna be good!

I've heard it's $12.5M.

Didn't he turn down more from Colorado and/or Carolina?

I'm inclined to say Yes, but I doubt they do. Clarke is an offensive D who still needs to become more stable in the d zone. Francis just signed an offensively inclined UFA RHD last summer to go with Dunn. Three similar offensive types are too many. Getting Clarke would push other changes I doubt Francis has the balls to do.

I think Dunn should be on the block even if they don't go for Clarke, more so if they do. Dunn's been half checked out for weeks and if this is the version the team will get in the future what's the point? Dunn would fetch a haul. This D needs an overhaul in any case, they leak soft goals against in the worst way. I like Montour and Larsson, they are not checked out. Dunn is on/off. The rest is much of a muchness. Evans (another one who is better going forward) is good on the puck but struggles against a heavy forecheck, but maybe there's still residue after the injury.

I know losing quality NHLers like Dunn, McCann (and Bjorky) really hurts the team, but they are treading water at best with the Kraken which has been very apparent this season.

Good return for Tanev.

Super happy about that. I highly doubt he'd have been figured into the future of the team, and would have explored FA. As such, the Tanev era is over.

Sort of a wild trade deadline for us as Kraken fans. Two of the more pivotal and interesting expansion pieces are gone, which sort of shifts the identity of the team. We definitely look WAY WAY more boring to outsiders now.

We haven't looked all that interesting to outsiders anyways.

It's about the future. Clarke has top pair potential. Two years down the road it could be Clarke, Montour, Larsson in that order if things work out.

Why wouldn't he though? I doubt he's in the long term plans and I don't think he's been that great. I'm assuming we wouldn't have to eat a ton of money either
I 100% agree that he should be moved. But I can see Francis not wanting to move any D just because we have no one in the pipeline. This is where I would like to see him take some "risks". Move Oleksiak, use assets to get a younger D prospect from elsewhere.

But it's just not something that I have seen him do that yet.

Kinda feels like the Rantanen thing at the top distracts the eye from what was honestly one of the more boring TDL days that I can ever recall. Seems like most teams didn’t do anything and a good chunk of the ones that did were “that’s it?” deals like Mrazek going to DET or Cody Glass going wherever.

Looks like Francis in true style did the absolute adequate minimum. He got a good return on his deals which is fair, but this guy is simply too phlegmatic, passive and uncreative. He is responsible as much as anyone for misjudging the situation with the team this year and ending up in this spot. The Stephenson and Montour contracts are going to be sticks in shit at a time the team will want to move pieces around freely. Buying them out is poor management.

All together this simply doesn't cut it. I think we will see a lot of new faces in the FO within 18 months.
