Speculation: Trade Deadline Preview: Will The Real Sellers Please Stand Up?

J Hughes might be hurt . I can see Fitz going hard now for a C ( or two) . That or he punts on the season and doesn’t do anything. They have been dog shit since Christmas and have too many holes to plug . And that was with a healthy J Hughes .
Who are some realistic C options for the Devils ? Nelson ? Strome ? Evans ? I can’t see Fitz using assets in a rental unless he is desperate enough to save the season . Hard to know what he will do and a lot depends on Jacks health . If Jack is out the rest of the regular season, do they say screw it and do nothing ? Do they sell ? ( Kovy) . Do they go hard to replace Jacks production the best they can and use assets on a rental unless? Do they give up Nemec or Mercer to save the season in acquiring anyone ? Hard to know . They will have to see if they LTIR Jack or not I guess then go from there .

My Flames should definitely be sellers, but likely won't. We are the definition of a deluded organization.

D Wolf looks so damn good though, at least that’s fun. Goalies are voodoo, it’s premature, but I’d love to see a Hasek-esque run.

Trying to be positive, because otherwise.. ya, agreed.

Sabres should be interesting. This is the most exciting part of the season for my team!

..*cries Buffalo sauce*

I feel bad for Buffalo fans, and wonder what it's going to take to turn this around. There is something inherently wrong with the culture, and the way players aren't developed properly. In particular, a lack of veteran D, to help teach some of the great young talent back there, that "should" see the team moving forward one day. So many young players, who should be much better than they have been so far...

It’s fine, I think they’d actually be in this year if we didn’t have a potato of a coach (I’m delusional, I know). At least they’re tragic-comedy bad, maybe I’m just coping but I’d almost rather have that than, like, the Isles position. Always there, but not really, and now on the downswing.

Agreed on D, the big problem is our cheap idiot owner, but if he’d pull his head outta his ass to just pay some hockey people we’d be better by now. Think the core is finally good enough if they can get a coach who will guide ‘em in how to keep a 3rd period 3 goal lead.

Ducks should not be sellers at this deadline but we'll see how PV approaches things. Guys like Dumo and Fabbri could possibly be moved but the team is 6 points out of the playoffs, with one of the best prospect/asset pools in the league, and is in dire need of a top 6 point producing F.

I don't think they should be sellers, gotta reward the team for their effort but adding seems a bit premature.

Maybe it's the homer in me but I feel the nucks will add a forward or two and Demko will pickup where he left off and they will go on a run like they were doing before the break.

Or we continue to piss games away because our coach refuses to allow our forwards to do anything creative and we continue to look like the coyotes team he did the same thing to lol.

Penguins are sellers.

Hayes could be a good center / vet depth.
Acciari is a decent bottom 6 center in a market that is very light on them.
Beauvillier is your middle 6 scoring depth
Gryz is your 2/3LD 2PPQB
Neds could be your BUG

All of them are in that 3rd or 4th round pick price range.

I’ve had a gut feeling about Zegras getting moved to STL for awhile now.

He’d fit much better in Monty’s system than Cronin’s, and his age/positional need are very ideal for what we’d be looking for if we do buy this week.

Do you have a 22-25 year old impact forward to send to the Ducks in return? The Ducks don’t need any more prospects, picks or d-men.

Teams with a first who are in contention:

Jets, Kings have a first.

all the west bubble teams have their 1st still: Stl, Utah, Calgary, Vancouver.

Capitals, Hurricanes, Wings, Bluejackets have a 1st. I didn’t go thru the bubble over there because it’s like everybody.

Devils have 3 2nds.

I could see a lot of these teams wanting to keep their picks.
Yeah the Flames aren’t going to be buyers. I think they’d be happy to make the playoffs, but given where the team is in its development it’s not a priority.

Bolduc is only 21, but he seems to be breaking out right now.

I’d say Neighbours would be a perfect fit for you guys with the way Cronin/Verbeek want to play, but Armstrong absolutely loves the kid, so I can’t see him being dealt.

We have Kyrou, Buchnevich, Holloway, and the two I mentioned on the wings..with Snuggerud coming next month as well.

In the hypothetical scenario that the Blues do trade for Zegras, one of Schenn(who I don’t believe is getting moved) or Dvorsky(when he’s ready) would have to move off of center too. Our fanbase seems to love Bolduc, but I’d move him in a deal for a center that has the ceiling that Trevor has.

I don't know where to find those stats, but which bubble teams have the hardest schedule to finish the season?

That might give insight on which of them may pull the plug to get in on the deadline action. It will likely be a seller's market.

The thing is, teh Flames don't have anyone to sell. They're not getting rid of core guys with term. So that leaves.... Hanley, Rooney and Vladar. Vladar is likely the most valuable and there is 0 chance he lands more than a 3rd, and that should be a stretch but somehow Rittich got a 3rd a few years ago.

It makes more sense that the Flames might be the meat in a trade sandwich and eat some cap to facilitate other trades and take a mid pick as compensation
