Trade Deadline Predictions

MOD NOTE:

Do not troll the thread / try to get a reaction out of people by posting something ridiculous. First and only warning.

If you genuinelly see / hear Shero or a member of the Pens organization speaking about trades on NHL Network, TSN, or other legit media, please verify it with a direct quote and link. Any far-fetched comments attributed to Shero or the organization without verification from a mainstream media source, will be deleted and offenders will be infracted for trolling.

Thanks.

I think Brenden Morrow is coming to Pittsburgh. Kennedy will stay. Third line could be really really big, come playoff time. I could see Ryane Clowe as a possibility but not likely.Bottom 6 upgrade should be main priority.

Thing about bottom 6 upgrades is you can be a little more aggressive in terms of moving multiple players out and bringing in multiple people because of the lower salaries and trade cost. The way Minny is going I guess we can cross Cullen, Seto and the others off the list. Coyle and Granlund have been sent down (probably for the year), so they're not going anywhere. So call that a prediction -- nothing doing with Minnesota.

So bottom six wise you've got "tweeners" like Clowe, Kuly, Umberger...

and true bottom six guys (because of skill or age) like Morrow... Klinkhammer.

(OK not Klinkhammer .... I just wanted to use his name in a post because it's awesome.)

Have Despres and Niskanen had more than three shifts together? Hard to see how that means 'set' :).

All our D needs is for Bylsma to play Despres next to Letang. Then there is balance and great fits all around. At least as long as the team's overall D-efforts are kept.

Iginla and Torres please.

Koon Sid Iggy
Beau Geno Neal
Torres Sutter Dupuis
Cooke Vitale Adams

Madness.

They actually had a game where they were paired together . . . the Islanders game.

I personally prefer to look at the upgrades the Pens need NOT as being bottom six upgrades. **** the fourth line. What the Pens need are TOP NINE UPGRADES. Specifically, they need better than Cooke (Cooke works best for me as L4 LW) and to send Kennedy to the nearest man bear pig stye in oblivion. While I'd love for one of the upgrades to be Iginla, I'd like at a minimum for both of the additions to be, as you called them, tweeners, guys who can play anywhere in the top nine. Worst case scenario, you want guys who can step up (maybe) in the event that Dupuis isn't enough for Sid or Bennett hits the rookie wall in the playoffs.

I definitely see the Pens getting Morrow for the third line to play with Cooke and Sutter. Guerin will push for it. I'm sure of it.

Iggy will be too pricey for Shero's taste.

Kennedy will be a goner... Probably for B Morrow.

Personally, I like our D as is but I could see the need to add some size.

I'm still not comfortable with Beau on the 2nd line in the playoffs. He'd be perfect as a depth forward in case of injury on the top6 though.

Pens are scouting Dallas again tonight. Seems like they've been following Dallas around for 2 weeks.

Wonder who they are interested in...

Shero was shown on TV at the Lightning/Leaf game tonight. No doubt it has to do with the GM meetings (isn't it in Toronto?), as he was sitting with a bunch of GMs.

Or maybe KIRK can get excited about a possible Kulemin addition. ;)

I can't see Jagr returning.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens are looking hard at Morrow to see where his game is at. I've also heard Nystrom is someone they may be looking at for 4th line help.

Gimme some grit. Boston would beat the snot out of us physically in a 7 game series. Rolling Tanner Glass out there so he can kick the puck around in the corner doesn't help.

Don't know what the obsession is with Jagr. He got paid big bucks as a ticket draw for Dallas, and right now he probably just wants to pad his stats and be on people's minds come voting time for the HOF when he retires. If he wanted a cup he wouldn't have signed with a rebuilding team.

But let me guess, he almost has as many goals as Sid.. so trade Sid for Jagr?

The Stars were rebuilding last summer with the signings of Jagr, Whitney and the trade for Roy? Really?

I think Morrow is the target, without a doubt. Here's why:

* Reminiscent of the Guerin Acquisition... and we all know how that turned out in 2009
* Won a Stanley Cup as a leader on his club & played one of the leading roles whenever they made the playoffs.
* Affordable cap-hit with our capspace this year.
* Good friends with Guerin & Neal (not so sure about Niskanen)
* Would significantly upgrade our bottom six and set an excellent example to Sutter & BB
* Potential replacement for Cooke this summer if Morrow is willing to take a paycut like Guerin did.
* Price (Cost) is right to get him. I would imagine them wanting Kennedy+ to replace Morrow on the bottom 6 & potentially replace some of their aging wings next year.
* Bylsma's & Shero's type of player (warrior with leadership skills)
* Potential to re-sign him this summer @ a discount ($2M) "a la Guerin"

Question is... how much left does he have in the tank & what's the cost?

**** Jagr.

As for predictions, I predict that no matter what Shero does, there will be a very vocal group of dissenters. Seems about the safest bet out there.
