That can be said of a handful of teams, really.

It just goes to show how deep the issues have become.

Miss the playoffs the first time with 96 points coming off a Presidents' Trophy and it's a no brainer to go back to the well with the same group for another kick at the can.

Miss the second time after spending assets at the deadline and it's a bit tougher to justify.

If management and ownership don't "get it" at this point that they're not knocking on the door, then they're either extremely foolish or extremely incompetent.

Well put. Better than I've been able to put in words. When DS took over I didn't think they'd make the playoffs until 17-18 anyways.

I was begging them to sell last year. They need to see the writing on the wall. They've set themselves back. Dangerously close to compounding the same mistakes a year ago.

If DS wants to acquire assets to improve the team now, I'm OK with that as long as it's not a short sighted move. But ideally sell assets that aren't a part of the team moving forward.

even as average as rask has been the past month we are still a 500 team. tanking isn't an option for this core.

and even though fans on a prospect sight voice support for getting a better pick... the general paying public wants to see its team get into the playoffs

ultimately, you and I don't know the real options as far as what might be offered to us as trades. we must let the professionals make their judgement... but I can say as a fan of this team for the past 44 years now, tanking is not going to happen under this ownership.

expect the first order of business to be shopping for some help.

I still see the most pressing needs to be a top 6 winger to add scoring punch to the krecji line... a top 4 dman that has some 2-way game and preferably partner with krug... and now I add to that a backup goalie because rask has clearly been run into the ground and is in need of a recharge.

as to where I would find these things...

we don't want to give up the farm... so buy low.

many here criticize the idea of dealing for jarome iginla... why? where is the risk? it is true that he probably regrets finishing his career in Colorado... he was sold a bill of goods when they convinced him to sign there and promised him he could make a difference. he was chasing a cup... and bought the lies his friends sakic and roy told him about their plans for success. so now he is the heartless tin man running out the tail end of a hof career. but he almost got to the promise land with us... maybe he finds something left in the gas tank if we pick him up? and the cost? I'm sure it's affordable to us.

the backup goalie situation should be solvable for not much more than we pay for iginla but must wait until the deadline I think if we want it cheap. I do feel tampa is going to be willing to give up bishop to someone but there are more teams in the market than just us. the price wont go down until other goalies become available my feeling is one of the guys out of Calgary and ryan miller out of Vancouver will both become available but not until the playoff race out west gets more settled. because of the big tickets on these guys... someone will be available for cheap I do believe.

as for our needed dman... it will cost more I'm sure than iginla or the goalie would. but without this piece then going for the playoffs is futile. so we must pay up. our most valuable asset I think is a kid dman. not all of our kid dmen will find room to play. one may be sacrificed if its for a good cause.

maybe tampa would move a guy as I see at least 4 guys there that need protecting from the expansion. maybe buffalo would move a guy as they have a couple they cant be happy with at the moment. of course Arizona has stone as a pending ufa. he hasn't played well this season but there can be reasons for that on a bad team.

I see us buying... and see at least 3 new names coming into the mix. I don't see us taking on guys whose contract extends beyond this season though as our cap situation next year is tight already. of course I don't know the real options being offered... if someone is willing to take contracts like hayes and mcquaid or killer off our hands then it could change next years plans.

I vote we are buying... but I don't feel the names coming in will be impact names and I don't feel we will be giving up the boat to get them

Sell of course, to what extent ,will depend on how successful they think they can acquire what is missing at the moment.

They should sell just like they should have last year. Not much of quality to move on the roster but I think there's still a few names to try and get some value for and the player movement is necessary and healthy. I'd be up for a couple bigger names being out there but I doubt they'd be up for that.

In fact, unless they really tank out the stretch of games before the deadline I'm sure they can convince themselves they are not out of it. I can see them scrounging around the bargain bin again to try and "just get in".

even with a sound acquisition or two at the deadline, and that ain`t happening IMO, this team still isn`t a cup contender

Start selling, of course, Jacobs will come out tomorrow and proclaim he still believes this team has a chance for a deep playoff run

That's where I'm at. If a trade is made, trade for the following season or seasons. The team is not going anywhere. They get pushed over too easily and don't go into the dirty areas. The system is a perimeter system. Most of their shots are always from bad angles because they can't establish themselves in prime areas to shoot. Sell sell sell.

Sell Sell Sell, but lets hold on to all the guys that have helped us make the playoffs these past three year :handclap:

EVERYBODY should be made available ,EVERYBODY.

This core group is polluted and have excepted being losers regardless of what they say in front of a mic.

Keep- Bergy/Marchand/Z/Pasta/Vatrano/Carlo/C Miller/Krug

Probably forced to keep but I hammer on the door of DK/Beleskey and ask them to waive

No point asking Backes, he`s going nowhere yet

The rest...............see ya, some I move due to being useless, others I move such as a guy like Moore because I can see his value on a team that could challenge for a Cup and a team would likely pay a bit for him

Will the owner let them sell, though?

Not sure they're willing to kiss playoff revenue goodbye.

So the mandate is to make the playoffs? And yet they've let them go on without a legitimate top4 D and top6 winger for how many years now? Incompetence from top to bottom.

This is unfortunatly what the results would need to be over the next six games for management to do what they should. It's crazy how much we can sink in the teams behind us pick up wins with their games in hand on us.

They have to go something like 15-7-5 over the last 27 games to get to 93 points.

To quote the Internet video mister balloon hands,

"Yeah right. YEAH RIGHT."

Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak, Carlo, C.Miller and Krug my untouchables; I'd try to give Chara a chance to win another ring; rest can go...

So help me god if they buy again this year

Help me even further when they do and we fast forward 3 months when a group here is saying "well that's hindsight you couldn't have known they needed to sell."

I hear you - but - if they can buy a key piece that would help next year and moving forward I'd be all for it. For this year though, just say no.
