Who is taking Engvall without us giving up yet another draft pick? He’s anchored here I feel like.

There are a few teams that would likely give up a mid/late draft pick for a 1.25M Engvall. He's not dead weight. He's a serviceable player with some interesting potential. 6'5" that can skate and had plenty of solid games. A rebuilding team should be all over a player like that to give him ice time.

If not a single team wants him, the Leafs will just waive him and bury his contract.

All these signings makes me feel what I do at work

Send out 100s of emails to look like im doing something

Ritchie and Bunting are decent signings

The rest are just fillers for Marlies including Kase. Who at this stage of his life should choose life

5 concussions and last one wasn't event a hit. God forbid Wilson, Anderson or Reaves take a run at you

Ritchie is type of player we needed. When he chooses to play. He really isn't physical as people think

We all know McCan is going to score 30 goals this year. Because that would be the most leafs things to happen

Which of the new guys can PK? We lost Hyman, Foligno off the PK.

I'm OK with losing one of Engvall and Mikheyev. Preferably Engvall, I'm holding out hope that Mikheyev will get the scoring touch back.

leafs PK forward as it stands right now

Marner Kerfoot
Mikheyev Kampf

Spezza to take faceoffs.

In case of injuries I assume brooks/engvall would come into PK; potentially matthews too (they did try matthews on PK earlier in the season)

? Looking at the ufa d singings. You really think that keeping McCann and losing holl was the play?

And do what? Beg ceci to come here?

jake bean got more of a contract than holl. He has barely played.

He's 6'5", can skate like the wind, plays good D, and has 15 G in 90 career games.

This is a ridiculous take.

I dont understand why people are writing him off. He has tremendous puck carrying ability and yes sometimes he over does it

He has yet to play top 6 and still manage to put decent numbers and without any PP time

He hasn't played more than 100 games. Every league he has played so far he has had a slow start then he picks up

I would have preferred him instead of Simmonds on PP. He has some scoring touch and can retrieve the puck and enter the zone

I think they usually rotate 3 pairs for the PK too .. So you might see Bunting get a crack at it too

I didn't say any of that. I simply implied he's going to have a heck of a year and us leafs fans are gonna go crazy. You didn't get the pun

These signings are decent for the path Dubas has chosen. I disagree with the path but that's a different story.

The signings are risky, however, they do make sense.

I think Dubas could complete the job by bringing in a proper top 6 LW that has a physical side to his game. Someone that's more proven. Someone like Bertuzzi would have been a good one but he's signed now.

Bunting and Ritchie are nice pieces. But they need that one quality winger to round out the left side and knock everyone down a spot.

Trading a couple of guys to make it happen is the only way.

I think Engvall is a very good bet to be traded for a mid round pick. Many teams will take a chance on a tall forward signed for cheap with ok potential.

Medium bet that Kerfoot is traded if the return value is good. Will need a replacement and that won't be easy to find now.

Low bet Mikheyev is traded barring a pretty big overpayment. Skillset is too important for his cap hit.

I just think after Engvall is likely traded, the Leafs go into training camp with an open mind and waive whoever loses out.

Two years ago Mikheyev was working on a similar season to what McCann was doing, a 16g 30 assist pace but as a raw rookie with a duplicatable 8.2%s. If that Mik is back it would be huge and a mistake to trade him for the peanuts he returns right now. If Kerfoot is staying I think Engvall isn't as the only reason they might retain him is to develop him further as a center

Kerfoot, Kampf, Marner, Mikheyev, Kase/Anderson, and Semyonov/Brooks are likely the guys who receive PK consideration.

Bunting is going to have his hands full with PP and ES.

I wonder if there is a market for kerfoot+engvall leaves dump out about 4 million in salary and sign bozak for 2x2

bunting-matthews-nylander
ritchie-tavares-xxx
mikheyev-bozak-marner (not jvr-bozak-marner; but can still produce I think and make soup productive; and almost a sureshot goal for penalty shootouts after OTs lol)
simmonds-kampf-spezza
robertson,kase

fill the spot next to JT with the 2 million gained in cap space or put robertson/kase there; and accrue TDL cap space. "Cap flexibility"

what I really want is for Willy to center a line though

I do wonder if that's part of their plan this year if Kerfoot needs to move to the wing and a guy like Kase is working out well:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Ritchie-Tavares-Kase
Kerfoot-Nylander-Mikheyev

I'm definitely not against splitting the big 4 amongst 3 lines, but not feeling that 3rd line configuration. Not really sold on bringing Bozak back in general, but even if we did, there is no shooter on that line. I see a lot of pucks just being overplayed.

He literally counts for 0 cap hit if you send him to the minors. What’s wrong with this inbred sick fanbase ?

damn I already got roasted but the inbred sick comment has me on the ledge.

thought Engvall was making 1.55 so that contract is good for us. However I doubt any gm is helping us out cap-wise - esp given how precious cap space is - unless it’s a hockey deal.

Lineup still evolving in spite of Dubas failing to do all his work on day one  I like Kase but I have no faith in him holding up. Kampf is not a 3rd line C and their left side looks pretty weak unless everyone has a career year. I think they will add a C to push Kerfoot to the wing full time or a winger so Kerfoot stays at center.
I'd expect the Ritchie signing pushes Kerfoot back to centre and they start the season with something like this:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Ritchie - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Wayne/Kase
Engvall - Kampf - Spezza

Simmonds and Kase share a spot since neither can be counted on as an everyday player. Anderson/Brooks/etc fight with Engvall for the final LW spot. If Robertson wins a top 6 spot Mikheyev gets bumped down to the 4th line LW and Engvall out of the lineup.

Idk the more I try and build the roster the more I feel like we're missing either a Top6LW or 3C. I think as of right now, something like this is the best build based on playstyles:

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kase
Engvall/Brooks-Kampf-Spezza
Simmonds

Again, I'd trade Rielly and use his cap space for Tatar and run both Sandin/Liljegren. You'll know by the deadline if you need an upgrade over them. Trade one of Mik/Engvall/Brooks for a pick.

Tatar-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Ritchie-Kerfoot-Kase/Mikheyev
Engvall/Brooks-Kampf-Spezza

Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Brodie
Dermott-Liljegren

Campbell
Mrazek

Trading Block
LW Pierre Engvall
RW Denis Malgin
LD Teemu Kivihalme
G Joseph Woll*

* depending on what they plan on doing with Kallgren.

There may also be a Hollowell or Duszak on the list if we add another defender to the mix, or if they want to have Finkelstein/Kapcheck in the AHL in addition to Hoefenmayer/McCourt.

Just looking through the league... The Winnipeg Jets seem in a weird spot right now? I feel like I'm missing something. They have 7M in cap space with RFAs Pionk, Copp and Stanley to re-sign. Comrie is probably their backup goaltender. Little is on LTIR though so that can open up things for them.

Either way, I could see them being interested in adding someone like Engvall.
