Dubas seemed to make a great effort to hold onto Kerfoot and possibly Dermott at the expansion draft by trading for McCann only to lose him.

looking at the roster as it is a trade would not surprise me, to gain some cap flexibility he mentioned wanting and/or a Bogo type defenseman.

I highly doubt Kerf moves but maybe Dermott, Engvall?

Lineup still evolving in spite of Dubas failing to do all his work on day one  I like Kase but I have no faith in him holding up. Kampf is not a 3rd line C and their left side looks pretty weak unless everyone has a career year. I think they will add a C to push Kerfoot to the wing full time or a winger so Kerfoot stays at center.

To me the only question is rielly now. That would change everything. This double bet on Ritchie pretty much solidifies that kerf is gone next year.

I still want to try to trade rielly to a team he will extend with and try to get a slightly lesser d with term.

like a hanafin. Marino etc.

If any of the new signings can find chemistry in the top 6, they are likely to have career years. Imo

Timing of Bertuzzi re-signing right after Ritchie signed makes me think the Leafs were in on Bertuzzi.

Yzerman probably asking for a king's random for us to get him. i'm glad we didn't pay it.

I absolutely agree, I feel like Detroit and Toronto were in deep discussions but Toronto wasn't willing to pay what Detroit was asking and decided to go for Ritchie instead and Detroit resigning Bertuzzi.

I wonder if they're still shopping Kerfoot and Mikheyev .. Or are looking to move Engvall

Which of the new guys can PK? We lost Hyman, Foligno off the PK.

I'm OK with losing one of Engvall and Mikheyev. Preferably Engvall, I'm holding out hope that Mikheyev will get the scoring touch back.

kampf is a really solid penalty killer and a center, something our pk has sorely lacked

I would think kampf, Kerfoot, mikheyev and marner are our 4 right now. Ideally though, I'm finding the means to get marner off the pk

Ritchie really cements basically the end of our cap space, no? Seems like money needs to move out to do anything else. Still don't have a top-6 LW in the org unless you believe Kase/Nylander can play their opposite side and that Kerfoot is good enough for the top-6- which would kinda defeat the purpose of Kampf being a PK specialist.

I'd still move out Rielly for young assets & 1sts and use his cap space of Tatar and run some form of

Dermott-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Liljegren

I still think we need to sign another 3C vs. top 6 LW. Bozak would be ideal!

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Ritchie-Bozak-Kase
Simmonds-Kampf-Mikheyev
Spezza

Lots of options to switch nylander to LW and have different looks up-down the line up

I’m very happy with the Ritchie signing, he helps our depth for sure and gives us more bite.

There is no question Nylander can play LW

Our bottom 6 is pretty good on the wing. Kase's health has to hold up but even if it doesn't, you have Mikheyev, Kerfoot (who likely will play more as a center with Kampf as a winger taking the draws), Anderson, and Spezza with a ton of insurance (Simmonds, Malgin, Brooks, Robertson, Ho-Sang, Engvall, etc.). Malgin/Engvall may get moved though.

Then you are counting on Ritchie and Bunting to be able to perform as a complimentary guys in our top 6. Neither have had anything good as what they are going to work with in Toronto, and they are probably the biggest risk in our lineup beside maybe our goalie tandem.

I think Engvall is a very good bet to be traded for a mid round pick. Many teams will take a chance on a tall forward signed for cheap with ok potential.

Medium bet that Kerfoot is traded if the return value is good. Will need a replacement and that won't be easy to find now.

Low bet Mikheyev is traded barring a pretty big overpayment. Skillset is too important for his cap hit.

I just think after Engvall is likely traded, the Leafs go into training camp with an open mind and waive whoever loses out.

I'm just of the opinion he's much better on the right side.

Kerfoot/Nylander showed a lot of chemistry. He is a viable candidate for the Tavares/Nylander line IMO. We just need to insulate the 3C slot more

Dubas mentioned in his presser Kerfoot playing on the wing more..

I don't mind Kerfoot in the top6, I just am less than enthused with any other 3C option besides maybe Engvall?

I’d rather give Brooks a try at 3C than Engvall. That’s not saying much, but wouldn’t be surprised to see the kid take that spot with his motor

3C looks like a glaring hole over any top 6 wing option

Who is taking Engvall without us giving up yet another draft pick? He’s anchored here I feel like.
