I definitely think the argument can be made that he's worth more than 2x what Trenin is, and probably more than 2x what Foligno is.
7 or 8 years isn't the only option either.

Doesn’t really answer the question. Just points to Trenin/Foligno being overpaid.
Rossi brings some value to the ice , overpaying a little for what he brings might be fine. Our plugs bring nothing if note o the ice and contribute heavily to the on ice product being nearly unwatchable. Overpaying them is nothing more than Billy’s country club treatment for his preferred players. Nothing about what Guerin has done has been merit based. He’s a hypocrite.

Probably $10-ish million, since Kaprizov would be getting ~$20M in the same scenario.
I don’t think Foligno is overpaid. He’s a solid player.
I think the second Rossi gets a big deal he will be a whipping boy here.

Probably because we’ve been riding him like a rented mule and the concussion clearly impacted his play.
He looked great in the 4N tournament against better competition.

I think he needs rest, but yeah he was able to string together a few good games there. I almost wish our players hadn't made that tournament, fun to watch though it was.
Seemed like it was good for Gus. I like that Faber and Boldy have established themselves as team USA regulars. To your point though ….it was certainly detrimental to the Wild overall.

Yep, it's one of those things where I want players who are good enough to always get their national teams' invite, but I don't want them to go and get injured and overspent there. If I have to choose between players who are good enough to make it on those teams, and players who aren't, I'll choose the former without thinking twice.
The cap goes up, Rossis agent is doing the right thing now and wants the best deal for his client. I have been warning about this situation since last summer, but Guerin and some posters here were smarter and are now complaining that Rossi's agent wants to see money in light of Rossi's very positive development.
Wild/Guerin did hesitate last summer and now have to pay the bill for it. It's as simple as that. Or trade Rossi.
Especially Minnesota should know that capable top6 center are hard to find. They don't grow on trees. Especially young skilled centers with enormous work ethic and good character are keeper in my book.

Yes. Let’s blame Guerin for waiting to offer a contract to someone that looked like a deer in headlights last season.
If he offers Rossi 5-6M/yr to Rossi and Rossi busts, people would be rioting.
I think the issue is he’s trying to get more money than Boldy, and possibly Faber. He’s not more valuable to this team than either of them, at this point in time. I have a hard time believing that his stock is going to go up all that much in the future.
A season with a NHL All-Rookie Team nomination looks for you like "a deer in the headlights"? I think we don't need to continue this discussion.

You're acting like Guerin is obligated to pay Rossi whatever he or his agent want. If Guerin loved Rossi's game, he would already have extended him. He either doesn't think Rossi is a top 6 center on a cup winner or doesn't think Rossi is worth what his agent is asking. Right or wrong, it doesn't hurt Guerin. It just increases Rossi's trade value and opens up more possible trading partners. You're also acting like you know what Rossi was asking for on an extension last summer. Maybe he was asking for more than he had earned then.
I like Rossi but I don't think he's an all-star level player. It's not going to be a Brent Burns like situation where we trade him and he turns into one of the very best players in the league. The franchise will survive if we trade Marco Rossi

Ok. Are you suggesting that Faber isn’t worth $8M? I’m confused by the vague and coy answers.
I think it’s more likely that Guerin approached Rossi’s camp earlier than we think and that the two sides were so far apart that the discussion went nowhere and was effectively tabled until this offseason.
Boldy has two quality seasons before signing his contract. Nothing wrong with waiting more then one good season on rossi. Lots of players have one big year then regress. Lucky for us rossi got better, a good problem to have.

If this is an objective view, you're going to need some sort of facts to support your assertion. In my subjective view, "deer in headlights" is hyperbole if you're talking about last season. Two seasons ago, yeah, I think that would be an accurate descriptor. Last season was one of ups and downs, like any rookie season, but overall it was a very good season where he all but established himself as top-2 line center on this team. If he were a deer in headlights, he'd have been getting the Ohgren treatment... also known as the Rossi treatment from 2 years ago.
Full disclosure: If you review my post history, I think you'll find I was pretty firmly on the fence when it came to re-signing him last off-season.
