Trade and Free Agency - 2024-25

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I like Peterka, but the player from Buffalo I’ve had my eye on, besides Cozens when he was there, is their young center Ryan McLeod. He’s an RFA after this season and is making just over $2M. Don’t know what it would cost to extend him if you could acquire him…..or offer sheet him. He’s good on the dot, kills penalties and can score. And I think he’s faster than Rossi. I love the player and would like the Wild to get their hands on him.
McLeod would be good but Buffalo needs that type of player more than we do and will offer a lot to keep him

He's a bottom six player all day long. Doesn't have the hands or imagination a for top 6C, IMO.

I’d be targeting Tage Thompson from Buffalo.
They'd be insane to trade him for anything short of Faber/Boldy +. I do worry that Guerin will trade Rossi for Norris. Norris has the size and great FO%, but is injured a lot, has never scored at a high level, is 3 years older than Rossi, and makes 8M/year.

I feel for the Sabres, man. Every team just picking through their roster like vultures.

But yes, Tage would be awesome. Imagine him on the PP with Zeev, Kap & Boldy feeding him.

Thompson seems to be the type of trade Russo is suggesting they would make with Rossi involved. Someone who is established, has term, and would fit the top 6 role.

the thing about Rossi is why doesn't he want to take 7mil?? Russo said he's been offered the same amount as boldy, but his agent is firm on 9mil per year. he's not worth this, nor worth being paid same as Kaprizov.

He plays a premium position and is negotiating in a time when the cap has gone up significantly, so I don’t blame him or his camp for standing firm.

I dont love the idea of $8-9M for him and I don’t think think Guerin will give it to him either. My concern is that this desire for a high number will tank his trade value. It’s a hard sell to give up a lot of assets for one of the smallest Cs in the NHL.

Boldy's cap percentage at the time of signing was 8.38%. That would be ~$8M for today and is right between the $7M and $9M mentioned.

It doesn't really make sense to compare to Kaprizov's cap hit. Kap would get $12-13M easily based on the cap for next year.
Does Rossi and oghren together even touch him?
It would need to be a much larger trade.

agreed

McMichael is someone I would trade Rossi for if I had to, would still like to keep Rossi unless negotiations are hard. I personally agree that Boldy and Faber are more valuable. Russo throws a lot of random out there for trade speculation, Peterka makes no sense, not a Guerin player at all in my eyes.

He isn't playing C this year. He could be like Granlund, a guy who does his best work as a wing. Also, when he does take FO's, his % is in the low 40's. I'll stick with Rossi.

Lindholm, Zacha, Middlestadt, McTavish, Zegras, Quinn, Krebs, Peterka, B.Nelson, Granlund, Kane, Bennett, Dach, ROR, Barzal, Pinto, Malkin, Crosby, Buchnevich, Marner, Schmaltz, Crouse, Boeser, Pettersson, Ehlers

Going through depth charts, those are the most likely Fs available in FA or trade. Obviously they won’t all be available, or good fits.

What's a Guerin player in your eyes?

These are pretty much the only reasons that he might be available, Washington has had him on a tight leash for several years now but he is a natural goal scorer that goes to the net well, he is very similar to Rossi in that way and may be a good fit with our group without changing the mix up to much. I would still only do this if Rossi is asking for the moon.

Rossi <-> Knies swap could make sense.

Not seeing any actual difference makers out there for a Rossi trade. Probably gonna just get someone Guerin likes better and we're gonna wonder why he doesn't score as much as Rossi does.

Rossi for Knies a prime example of what not to do
