Trade and Free Agency - 2024-25

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
Let's get Jonathan Toews on this team. That's a real leader. We can jettison fake-never-won-anything-in-his-career-leader Zuccarello. Rossi can learn a lot, and I'll get to wear my Toews Sioux jersey again.

Here is how I see next year:

Top 6: Kap, Rossi, Zucc, EK, Boldy, $7M UFA

3rd line: Yurov, Foligno, Hartman/Gaudreau

4th line: Gaudreau/Hartman, Trenin, Brazeau

Fighting for spot: Ohgren, Heidt, Hinostroza

Not resigned: Mojo, Nyquist

Maybe they drop EK with Foligno and try to recreate a GREEF type line again. Assuming Yurov would then move up to Top 6, depending on whether the UFA we target is a W or C.

==============================

Top 4: Faber, Brodin, Middleton, Spurgeon

Bottom pair: Two of Buium, Jiricek, Bogosian

Not resigned: Merrill

Traded: Chisholm

Am I missing anyone?

The lineup may not look entirely different, but the collective upside of Buium, Yurov, Ohgren, Jiricek, Heidt, Wallstedt offers some hope IMO

Who is your ideal $7M UFA?
I don’t love Boeser, but he’s probably the best short term fit. Be nice to have a real RHS sniper for first time in franchise history.

Marner would be incredible but don’t see the cap working unless we move Spurgeon or something.

Trade targets I like are Barzal, Tuch, E.Lindholm (risky but I think he’s better than he’s shown lately).

Mostly focusing on teams trending toward a rebuild.

But placeholders usually don’t have full NMCs. Albeit Foligno’s goes to a M-NTC in. 2026-2027 it just feels like BG has the entire roster under trade protections that will make it very hard to move.
The placeholder theory actually makes sense with when the full no trades end and the dead cap lowering. After next season the only player with a full no trade will hopefully be Kaprizov.

Next season, the full no trades are Kaprizov, Zucc, Foligno, and Middleton.

2 options, and you have to choose 1:

#1 - Trade Kaprizov to Carolina for Nikishin + 2025 or 2026 1st round pick, plus sign Marner to 7 x $13M

or

#2 - Re-sign Kaprizov for 8 x $15.5M

First option easily. I think Guerin has to make a real run at marner this summer. You can figure out the money later. Dallas isn’t exactly swimming with cap space next year and that didn’t stop them from adding a game changer. Plus, it’s Kaprizov insurance.

I realize Hartman is pretty unpopular around here right now, and I realize he's not having a very good offensive season, but of all the guys we're talking about moving, he would still be the last one I'd get rid of.

I think he's the only one of them capable of playing the heavier, aggressive two way game, while also not being a black hole offensively. He's been good the last couple games with Hinostroza, they generate some chances. Foligno by comparison looks completely useless offensively. Trenin is also completely useless offensively. Zuccarello is going downhill fast and if they get another player for the line with Kaprizov (Yurov or FA), Zuccarello won't have a place on this roster that makes any sense.

I would move any of those three and bet on Hartman rebounding next season.

Yeah, don't think about that. Think about other stuff that isn't that. Marner ain't coming here. I get the team will have the coin to get it done, but Minnesota isn't a preferred free agent destination. I'd put good money on it not even being in the top 2/3rds of the league. They'd have to overpay him significantly to get him here. Enough so that it would be detrimental to the rest of the roster.

Also, thinking about it more, I can't imagine Marner being a Guerin kinda player. Like...at all. I'd be fairly surprised if Guerin has even considered it.

Seems like the longest of long shots but maybe it's something you try to show kap you are committed to getting better and getting him some help.
