Sometimes, you have to make moves and be okay with missing. Given how our season has started, our first-round pick will likely be late, and we’ve spread out the picks over three years. To me, that’s perfectly fine.

I think they see the writing on the wall with Spurgeon. He’s not getting any younger, seems to be getting injured more often, and will be 38 when his contract ends in three years. He’ll likely be considering retirement at that point. Similarly, Bogo will be 36 when his contract ends in two years, and I don’t see us bringing him back either.

So, to me, this is a fine deal for us.

Clearly, this means we are trading Spurgeon, Rossi, Trennion, and a 2027 1st to EDM for Draisaitl. Kaprizov and his testicles can then rest easy.

Brodin is in Spurgeon territory with how often he is out of the line up at this point. Cannot stay on the ice and is as soft as anyone in the NHL. They’ll need to plan for a future sans Brodin just as much as Spurgeon.
