I think you forget that NHL contracts are guaranteed, and every NHL player risks serious injury everytime they step on the ice.

If the Wild are willing to set the new high mark this offseason, Kaprizov isn't going to turn down 120 million guaranteed in hopes of being able to set that make slightly higher a year later.

Only way that happens is if Kaprizov has zero intention of resigning in Minnesota.

I think you make your best offer for him next summer, sounds like we start at 8x13 and be willing to go up to 8x15, and if he doesn't accept that, you look at trading him during the season.

Can’t remember exactly what the rumored offer was, but that 8 x $11M deal would’ve been a bargain. Having Kap for another 4 years at $11M would’ve been perfect timing.

Not sure how that would’ve impacted the other signings over the past 4 years, but limiting Guerin’s access to cap seems like it’s been a good thing.

Who is going to pay Kap $15M+ if we don’t? He’s not going to sign in Utah or Columbus, so it likely has to be a market that is an actual threat.

Leipold said he would pay more than any other team, not that he would pay whatever Kaprizov wants.
My eye is on the Rangers, though it might depend on what happens with Shesterkin.

Both Panarin's $11.6M and Trouba's $8M expire the same summer.

We would have had to make further roster moves in prior years. The team was scraping the top of the ceiling for a year or two there.

Kaps camp didn’t want term, it took a while just to get him to 4 years.

No brainer target. Bogo & Spurgeon are made of glass and we have no RHD in the system who project as anything near Top 4. I’m not saying move Rossi or Yurov straight up, but there is a clear need and fit.

Out first this year plus Hunt/Lambos etc. Maybe Ohgren with a small add

Pretty clear this team needs to trade for some scoring help at wing.
Marjo is useless and Zucc is injured as usual regardless of whose fault this latest injury was. Also the odds that he comes back and is immediately effective aren’t great.

We have had a massive gaping hole in the top 6 since Fiala left and instead we got Trenin.

The names Locked On Wild tossed around are Nelson, Farabee, and Brink. Gotta think Brink doesn’t really make sense, but the other 2 are intriguing.

Normally I’d recoil from Nelson just based on age but he gives me Stahl vibes and that was a great time. Farabee is interesting indeed also based on age and the fact that he’s been forced to languish on a worthless flyers squad his entire career.

There's an 82% chance I'm in on acquiring Jiricek if it doesn't include Rossi, Yurov, Buium or Wallstedt

I don't advocate for trading Rossi, but if it's true that they really don't want to commit to him, I wonder what the odds are of something like Rossi for Jiricek+Sillinger/Voronkov/etc or however a deal like that would look.

Where do you put Zucc & Mojo? I’m all for diminishing their respective roles (for Zucc, it’s just 5v5, he’s still awesome on the PP) but they aren’t guys you hide in the bottom 6

Ohgren is a no brainer. If it’s Rossi, we need a capable center coming back as well as Jiricek. But I love Jiricek as a talent.

I know Russo wouldn't do Rossi, but everything leading up to this would lend to the thought that it could be Rossi.

Are we really putting a dent in the top 6 right now, with our record what it is, for somebody that is going to be the #3RD at best this year? I would hope not.

Doubt it'll be Rossi if it's done mid season, and given Jiricek's flaws, I think Ohgren or Heidt and a 1st is the most it should be

It's one thing to say Guerin doesn't wanna commit to Rossi long term, but as it stands, Rossi is so far ahead of Jiricek that it would take a big add, even Sillinger as I thought of earlier wouldn't be appealing to me

The only other name that interests me is Marchenko. We would have to expand from our side though.

We keep talking about Ohgren, but what about Khusnutdinov? I don't see a huge upside with him like Ohgren. Like Khus + Lambos + 2nd or something
