CBJ fans whose opinion I respect say that his progress has been slow, and he seems to be entitled. That might have been because of the way the last regime dealt with him...dunno. As of now, he needs a lot of improvement both on his game, and his attitude.
I wouldn't want to pay a lot for him. Certainly not Rossi.
Probably Lambos or O'Rourke and a draft pick at most.

Is Jiricek available? I haven’t been a huge fan of his game in my NHL viewings but he’s still a 6’4 RHS with tons of offensive ability. I don’t know where he would fit in long term. Probably 2RD, but I don’t really want to trade Rossi or Yurov for a future second pair D.
I’ve seen a few articles suggesting it and Russo mentioned it on his podcast (around a hypothetical Rossi-Jiricek swap)

Buium-Faber
Brodin-Jiricek
Middleton-Spurgeon

Substitute Hunt for someone if we need to cut cap.

@AKL first of all you should listen to Russo's latest podcast, and we've had many indications that Rossi just isn't a Hynes guy. Despite playing well, the kid isn't even on the PP, unless there are injured guys.

The tweets came from Isles fans and a beat writer. For the record...I like Rossi, I hope he stays, but I also see the need for a more experienced top 6 center.

More fresh stuff about a possible Rossi trade...

Just because the player doesn’t sign for what the GM wants doesn’t mean that the player is the problem. Need all the details to know.
It doesn’t mean the player isn’t the problem either, whether that be money, term, on ice play or something else. There was little resistance in signing Eriksson Ek, Boldy, and Faber to long term deals. Note that all three of those guys are two way players.

Nelson would fit in extremely well on this year’s roster. I don’t know how I feel about any deal that means he’s here next year and beyond. I don’t trust Guerin to sign him to something that I’d be comfortable with.

Any potential trade for him that involves Rossi is nonsensical. But assuming you could get him at later first round pick or better (skewing for the Wild) I’d absolutely be in favor of.

Honestly, we have too many defensemen that are in a similar position as Jiricek:

Left:
Lambos
O'Rourke
Peart
Hunt
Pionk
Kiviharju
Leskovar

Right:
Parker
Spacek
Soini
Masters
Healey

Not to mention Buium and then in the NHL you have Brodin - Faber, Middleton-Spurgeon, Chisolm (if he signs back).

I'd trade a defenseman for a defenseman like Lambos for Jiricek or Lambos + Healey for Jiricek, but the Wild absolutely do not need another defenseman.

The way we are going it would be a late 1st. Not very appealing for CBJ. I think MN has to look at what they want to accomplish with this trade. I am guessing that they want something that will help them this year in the playoffs, to persuade Kap when it comes to signing time that this team is a comer. They also don't want to be trading the future, if they can help it(Rossi, Yurov, Heidt).
I can see Granlund being a useful addition. While he can play C, he is also good on the wing, and his high offensive IQ would mesh well with Kap, Zucc, Boldy, and Rossi's game.

I think he could be had for a late 1st and a Milne/Bankier/Lambos type prospect. As an expiring contract, the $$ wouldn't be problem, but it would nice if they took Merrill back.

Getting a younger player or prospect like Jiricek is best left for the off season.

A guy like Batherson would be interesting, but i am pretty sure that the cost would be Rossi +. OTT might decide to go with the younger, cheaper guy with local ties if we add in a Lambos or 1st. I'm not sure how i feel about that, as i like Rossi, and OTT seems to be a bunch of losers. I think the idea is to add to what we have, not swap players. If that trade was done, then another player would have to be added.

Nyquist might be another option, and a very doable one, i think. He already knows the team, is a UFA to be, so $$ won't a problem, and NSH is clearly going downhill with the wind. I am guessing he will be the same cost as MiG?

I like Granlund in a vacuum but they should not be interested in adding another player lacking in size to a roster lacking size which has a knack of having that same lack of size come to roost in playoffs.

It's a moot point anyways, because we haven't heard anything about any sort of Rossi contract talks. I'm not going to assume Rossi is playing hardball when there hasn't been a whisper (as far I can remember) of anything to play hardball with.

Eriksson Ek and Boldy cost themselves some pretty good money accepting those deals. It's not anybody else's obligation to do the same, and jumping to label somebody as a "problem" if they don't is pretty selfish fandom.

I didn’t call Rossi a problem in the way you are describing, so I’m not sure what your point is.

Are we being for real right now?
The thing is I don't think Jiricek is a target with his attitude. Also I am being real. There is a huge chunk of defensemen in the AHL and in the juniors that Minnesota needs to develop. I think swapping one disappointing defenseman for another disappointing defenseman is probably one of the better swaps.

Jiricek is far and away better than every RD prospect we have in the organization. Saying we couldn’t use him because we have Spacek, Parker, and Healey is like saying we don’t need Buium because we have Lambos, O’Rourke, and Peart.

Lambos+Healey is not close to the same value as Jiricek. Jiricek is in the same tier as our top prospects. We would not trade Yurov for Lambos+Healey.

RD is an organization need. Big defensemen are an organization need. Having offensive ability in a big bodied right shot defenseman is perfect for this team. Bogosian’s contract is up after this year and none of our RD prospects look like they will be in the NHL anytime soon.

If you’re that adamant about trading a dman for a dman, how about Buium for Jiricek?

This negotiation with Kaprizov is going to be even harder than we expected. With reports that the cap is going to explode over the next 2 years (figures as high as 110M) due to the increased revenue numbers and the new CBA getting done, getting Kaprizov for even 15M seems like a pipe dream. Kaprizov’s agent is going to say we’re either going to use the new cap projection or we’ll just wait until the cap goes up. I kid you not I think Kaprizov’s camp is going to ask for 20M and they don’t have a lot of reason to rush to get it done.

It would be especially petty of Guerin to do so because he did that at least a couple times throughout his playing career

Seriously. I’d trade any combination of those players listed for Jiricek. Want Peart, Hunt, Spacek & Lambos? Done. Couple more? No problem.

Jiricek would be a great fit here. He has time to play behind Spurgeon but also a clear route to the Top 4 in time.
