Point of what? All this has become is:

Europeans: We don't really care about the WJC.

North americans: Well we don't care about your WHC.

Seriously.

Point of what? How much would Europeans care about the WHC if it was held during the playoffs over there, and the only players available to play had to be from teams already eliminated?

I think it's pretty obviously a fair point.

Fair point to a stupid discussion maybe? It's still a competition who's tournament is less valuable and who's stupid for caring too much/not enough.

It's hard to be under the gun when very few actually have guns. The 2010 tournament was only held in Saskatoon because the original host, Switzerland, withdrew and the only cities that put in bids to take over were Canadian. Not a single European city offered. What are you going to do when most European cities either aren't interested or are rightly afraid of losing their shirts?

You make a good point, but that seems to have been an isolated instance. No problem with tournaments in Russia, Sweden and Finland. The situation in Switzerland is fixed, and I think the Czechs, Slovaks and the Danes would probably like to bid.

Sort of like how the WHC is basically a European event held in European cities for European fans.

Only because Canada and the US aren't interested in bidding to host. Its now mostly held in Europe (held in Quebec in 2008) because NA isn't interested and doesn't really participate. I predict that Europeans will stop participating in the WJC unless they can get revenue sharing with TSN and Hockey Canada.

Sharing of what revenue and why, exactly? Without the audition that the WJC provides, some of these kids don't get a serious look from the high-paying NHL franchises that are watching (see: Godla, Sharov, Yudin, Gavrikov, etc.). If you take that away from the kids, you better figure out some other way of promoting them, because evidently they still want to come over here in droves.

I've made this point before but I'll say out again: it isn't a question of lack of interest in Canada, it's a lack of available venues big enough for the worlds. Cities that have big enough rinks have NHL teams with a couple of exceptions. They can't bid for the worlds when their teams could still be playing. Not possible. Does anybody doubt that Canadians would support a world championship on home ice? Of course they would, and it would be a money maker for Hockey Canada and any bidder, but logistically it's next to impossible.

I predict that is not going to happen. European federations get their income boosts from hosting the Worlds.

There are a few options that I can see.

Hamilton (17,000 seat arena) could host, as could Vancouver (16,000 old arena), Halifax (9,000) and Quebec City (13,000). I'm sure they all have a smaller facility nearby (say 6,000 seats) with which to co-host.

Its expensive packing up a team and flying them across the Atlantic. You've got all kinds of expenses, and minimal/nonexistent chance to compete with the money that Canada has to offer. It may be down the road a few years, but I sense that some European teams will lose interest in competing in the World Juniors without the chance for revenue to compensate.

Why should TSN/Hockey Canada share any revenue drawn from the tournament? Does the IIHF/Euro countries share any revenue from the WHC? Let's get one thing straight here, the young kids from Slovakia/Denmark etc. are getting the kind of exposure they'll never ever get in their home countries. The hockey federations and the players should be thanking HC for putting their programs in the limelight and on national television. Revenue sharing in an international tournament...righhhttttt!

A guy like Godla should thank the WJHC/TSN/HC if he gets drafted because the attention and respect he got nationally in this country would've boosted his image and reputation as a prospect. In the end more players drafted from the Slovak "Orange" program, the more recognition it gets, the more funding it gets..Hockey federations get a lot more than just a financial handout from this tournament, they get exposure for their own programs.

Most of the revenue goes to the hosting federation and the rest IIHF uses among it's other governing body duties to organize all those tournaments that don't make any profit.
