He didn't really have to be that good honestly. He only made 25 saves, and a lot were from the outside or one and done.

All the outside chances.

I think Eichel has been the best overall skater. Crosby has stats, but hasn’t been as impactful.

Eichel
McDavid
Helle

I think its still wide open. For Canada it could easily be Crosby or McDavid. But I also think after losing with him, if Makar comes in and has a dominant game against the States, he could win it. I think there's like 4 or 5 forwards on the States that with a big game could win it also. Maybe they haven't gotten the same run as some bigger names but if Larkin or Guentzel have big games against Canada twice, either of them could win it as well

So far?
100% Crosby.

he's the Captain. He's leading the tourney stats. he's impactful across all 200 feet.
Important timely assists and goals.
The huge hit and empty netter to seal what could have been a dangerous Swede comeback.

He was only -1 because he hopped off the ice 2 seconds before a goal was scored that he assisted on

Yeah, I don't really care about the -1. I More so meant that he played 3rd line D minutes, meanwhile Slavin played over 25 minutes, pretty much double what Werenski did. So who is more valuable?

They were defending a lead, it's no surprise they went with Slavin. In the first game in a blowout he had the most ice time of ANYONE on the the team, offensive players included.

Right...so when there was nothing to play for and nothing on the line, Werenski got a lot of ice time.
When things were tight and the stakes were high, Werenski saw the bench.

If he's the best all around Dman on the team, how is he not safe to put out in a 1 goal game?

So....he's more valuable than Slavin?

All you have to do is look at some of the names on that list and some of the names not on that list and you can tell how flawed it is.

This isn't a hate Werenski post. The guy is a legit stud. There's just no way he's been USA's most valuable player in this tournament.

As well as captaining the winning team, leading them in scoring (to date) and playing through injury, right?
Should empty net goals count? Take away the freebie and he’s not leading the tournament. Few more guys that are far more deserving than him. If he wins it it’s a career achievement award.
