Pre-Game Talk: Tour De Troit

Damn I miss hockey.

I will only be missing the next two games

We better show up looking better than it sounds like we did vs the Kraken.

Also hope McDavid and Drai can center their own lines for this game. our center depth isn't good enough put them together unless we skate 7D.

Looking at their last few games, "surging" seems like a bit of a strong word. They've won 4 of their last 7. They beat LA, Florida, Montreal and Tampa, but lost to Tampa, Dallas, and Philly. It seems like a lot of their success is on Cam Talbot's shoulders- he had a 28 save shutout in the Detroit game which was essentially a 1-0 win, and stopped 41/43 against Florida.

Yet again, this feels like a bit of a trap game. If we play like we did against Seattle and Buffalo, I think our luck might run out in this one. If we bring anything close to our A-game, this should be an easy 2 points.

Is Klingberg gonna draw in?
There was talk Detroit may be his first I thought I heard?
He’s had some immigration issues. They were expecting him to play last game so I haven’t heard if it’s sorted yet or not but as soon as it is I’d imagine he’d go. Not much time before the deadline and we need to give him a long look.

I just read that it's looking like sat. I'm still trying to possibly come to EDM for that game.

If Detroit is still without Kane, Compher, and Tarasenko like they were against LA, this might be a tough game for them. But it would be a good measuring stick for youngsters Edvinsson, Johansson, Soderblom, Kasper, and Berggren.

I don’t think Detroit is a good team. Its a bad to average team propped up by a good PP.

That said I don’t think Oilers have generally got up for the wings in the past. So hard to say how this goes. Probably just depends on the first period honestly.

Since the Red Wings hired McLellan they're tied for the 3rd best team in the league.

11-4-1

Exact same record as Edmonton over that stretch. Whether its a new coach bump or they've truly actually turned a corner, the Red Wings shouldn't be taken lightly tomorrow.

Cam Talbot when McLellan institutes a trap for 55 minutes on their third team together (they lose in overtime):

McLellan didn't run a trap in Edmonton.

Amusingly, the Red Wings beat the brakes off of the Kings the other day too.

Todd McLellan does come with some jokes that consistently write themselves but overall he's a really good coach.
I agree, I don't think McLellan is a guy who gets a team over the hump. But he's a great coach to come in and get things moving in the right direction imo.

He was a sacrificial lamb here under Peter Chiarelli who built an absolute stinker of a team for him to coach. Turned around the Kings rebuild and now seems to be turning around the Red Wings one too.

Don't diss Teddy Purcell and Lauri Korpikoski like that :sarcasm:
