Toughness on the Maple Leafs

Just want to get a feel on what fans think of our toughness. Whether it needs to be adjusted, if the "goons" should just sit or if everything is fine as it is.

My personal opinion is 1 4th line tough guy is enough. We have Fraser on D who can throw down as well.

Made a mistake in poll option, second option should be Keep McLaren, sit Orr

I'd like to vote "Keep McClaren, Sit Orr". Your 1st two choices are the same. :) McClaren/McClement/Komarov is a decent 4th line that won't get us in trouble. It's only a matter of time before something goes wrong when Orr is on the ice.
 
Ya, I noticed the mistake right after I posted it, not sure how to edit poll options or if a mod could??? Edited my first post so hopefully people read it and understand that's what the second option was meant to say.
 
Rotate Orr and McLaren in and out of the line up. It's important to have one in every night, but not both. Fraser can throw too.
 
Hopefully in a few years we won't need either of these guys. We have some size/physicality coming up the pipeline, Biggs, Ashton, Ross, etc. Guys who can play all other aspects of the game more effectively, while still making us a physically difficult team to play against.
 
I would like one 4th line heavyweight and one top-six tough guy to play on Kadri wing.
I get a feeling that Kadri will be starting **** that he might not be able to finish so he is going to need a wingman.
We don't have that top-six guy but the coach keeps throwing Orr up there
 
On even game days (Tues, Thurs & Sat) play Orr and odd game days (Mon, Wed, Fri) play McLaren. Don't play either on Sundays, but that doesn't matter as Leafs seldom play on that day.
 
Yeah these guys have really been winning us some games.

Give me a break. Toughness is great when the guys can actually play hockey. Neither of these guys can. Play the best players you have, end of story.
 
Prob MaClaren but I kind of dislike Orr.


Honestly I like the point that Segal and Mirtle brought up about trying to get a 4th line of...

That would be a defensive line for sure.

They were both dressed before the Leafs went on their current skid. I guess that fourth line hasn't been the problem.
 
Depends who your competition is.

Against teams whom have known fighters, and will be willing to have staged fights; dress them.

Against teams that have clearly scouted the Leafs and are not willing to have staged fights(i.e. The last two Penguins games, last Boston game); dress one or none.

I heard Brenden Morrow was available in Dallas. Someone like him?


Note: I haven't looked up his contract age and all that fun stuff.
 
McLaren is the less useless one of the two.

Personally, I'd rather have actual hockey players on my hockey team rather than glorified boxers, but I dunno, that's just me.
 
From what I have seen.

Fraser is a find.Mclaren could play shotgun on a 3rd line and Orr can play against certain teams i.e Boston because we will lose but not get our star players abused.Orr stays as he is perfect for the 13th forward.

BOOOM! Waste of two roster spots. These guys are beyond useless although McLaren seems a tad more useful than Orr. Leaf fans love their goons. Losing and not getting pushed around is okay...Losing and getting pushed around is not.

How about this formula Leaf land. Winning. How we gonna accomplish that with 3 lines? ONE of those guys can dress against those opponents that will require it. I can think of the Bruins..and basically nobody else.
 
Toughness is a bit overstated around these parts. I think the Leafs have become a victim of Boston's success, not only because we gave them so many pieces, but also because they beat us up so much. In this way, it's only natural to want to beat the bully at his own game, but I think that's a losing endeavor to begin with since they're so far ahead at that game. Just like the Chicago Blackhawks never became the Detroit Red Wings to beat them, they'll have to forge their own identity.

Exactly. Vancouver tried to change their identity after they lost to the Bruins and it hasn't served them well.

Trading Hodgson for Kassian was just one of the many mistakes the Canucks have made after they lost in the SCF.

We aren't getting tough because the Bruins are tough..that's just the way Nonis and especially Carlyle like to play.
