Post-Game Talk: Tough Decisions- LA Kings Off-Season

1. WOW - what a move by Florida. The Tkachuk brothers untied on a contending team with a window that should still be open for a WHILE... Good luck to the rest of the league

2. Florida was able to add Brady Tkachuk without giving up a single player from their active roster... Pure futures

Really want to highlight #2 here... This trade is living proof that it IS possible to add good players even if you don't have blue chip prospects / star young players to dangle in the trade. Futures are valuable to teams, and can absolutely get you really good players in return. Again, like I've said many times... You have to get creative & you have to have the mother freaking BALLS to pull the trigger on a trade like this. I'm so tired of hearing "the Kings don't have any assets to trade" and "why would X team be interested in futures" - the NHL trade market can be *VERY* unpredictable and teams can make sometimes surprisingly bad trades.

I understand people wanting the Kings to rebuild instead of making big trades - But let's not act like these guys don't have the assets to seriously improve this roster. It is possible.. You just have to find the right trade partners & be willing to part ways with some (potentially good) picks/prospects.

You forgot one important thing. Players don't want to play for the Kings. And in fairness to the Kings, the one guy that actually did request to go here, they got in a trade.

The team has been horrible for 12 years, the roster is not good, the taxes in CA are astronomical, the travel sucks.

Until the Kings draft the type of players that guys want to play with, and produce the type of results that make guys want to play here, it's going to be tough to overcome the challenges.

Doesn't really matter until the Kings win a cup again. Then, maybe players will want to come here again.

LA is a shithole now (coming from a born and raised local); high taxes, cost of living horrendous, traffic, crime, and terrible travel.

Vegas is ideal - clean, affordable, safe, no income tax.

Players used to want to go to Phoenix before Vegas over LA - even when LA was the spot.

Las Vegas is anything but clean, affordable, or safe.

Sadly though, it is better in all three departments than the greater LA basin.

I just went to a game in each round including two in the finals. I go to every Kings game in Vegas. I have also been to numerous games at Lee's Family Forum for a bunch of Henderson vs Ontario games. I also went to the rookie tournament a few summers ago in Summerlin.

Henderson and Summerlin are super nice and a lot of Cali people are moving there. I've walked around Vegas with friends or clients carrying money, watches, etc that if they wore in LA would get mugged in 5 min and nothing happened. If there was an ocean, this would be the best spot in the West Coast.

Minnesota, Making big moves to become a contender.

Florida, contender, down year from injuries.

Carolina, just won, decent team even if this turns out to be a Cinderella run.

Nevada, Not afraid to make moves to stay competitive & cup finals.

King's, swept in first round & bounced again. Traded for a top line player, signed long term, dumped before contract kicked in & blowing all the assets they have just to make the playoffs & get swept.

Yeah, it's the taxes & drugged out zombies & not being a joke of a franchise.

Summerlin is nice, but it’s not Vegas.

It’s like saying Manhattan Beach is LA.

MB (even though it has its own City) is in LA and Summerlin is in Vegas. One is just closer to the main part of town.

If you apply for a building permit in MB, you apply the thru the City of Manhattan Beach. If you apply for a permit in Summerlin, it’s thru the City of Las Vegas. Most Knights and Silver Knights live in Henderson, Summerlin or somewhere in between.

With all due respect and I mean all due respect… I cannot think of a more obnoxious country than Canada which almost its entire history is about being the English monarchy’s toilet paper that they wipe their ass with. The fact that any Canadian thinks they can poke fun of American nationalism when Canadians have the English monarchy still on their currency. How can a country that clearly has no self respect with their own currency come down on Americans? And I say this as an American who is sick and tired of American imperialism. But I can’t deny the history. I’m happy Brady left.

Also to clarify. I don’t mind when Americans hate America. You got the right to and have many reasons to. But when a Canadian does it it’s just like that weird cracked out hobo who might be speaking some truth every now and then but at the end of the day they’re just Canadian.

Eh I wouldn’t say Vegas is clean and safe. It’s got crime issues and safety issues itself. But it’s got the fun nightlife and nice areas without the bullshit California taxation. Would rather deal with less safety and hobos with more money in my pocket rather than the alternative.

I also wouldn’t use the Brady scenario as an examples he wanted to play with his brother and took advantage of that. And I’m sure many of the limp “nationalistic” Canadians who’s only claim to fame is “omg the Habs won the cup like 400 times” when there was three teams in the NHL. The Sens kinda had to move him.

As I tell the idiots on the main board when they make uninformed claims about LA--these guys aren't living on Skid Row. They get anonymity on The Strand.

It's not about "LA SUCKS" unless youre a chode like Ryan Smyth. It's about the team and franchise being a dumpster fire ON TOP of all the other things.

And I say the same thing on the flipside about low-tax destinations like the Panthers. No one was going "oh my god it's not fair" when they sucked a bag of dicks like a decade. Suddenly it's an unfair advantage? No, that's a good franchise doing good franchise things. It was a small window, but some will remember when the Kings were winning people were looking for complaints--LA is one of the biggest media markets int eh world. Their owners are as rich as it gets. They can do what they want. LA reffing. The league wants Hollywood in the playoffs. Nearly none of it is valid, only the smallest grains. The most important thing in the NHL is does your team suck ass or not. Guess what the Kings do?

Just look around the whole country. We’re going to pot. Just like the DC pool. It’s a disgrace. Vanities are out of control, and the gap between the have’s and the have nots is becoming untenable.

It will because the prices aren’t sustainable. Especially when we’re fighting foreign wars for foreign countries who don’t serve our interest.

Edit: I’m sorry moderators I am going to make one comment that isn’t typical discourse but I think we can all agree with. It should tell you everything about what’s wrong with this country when people riot over 1 person who is controversially killed, but an entire nation goes silent, no mass protests over ritualistic murder of children at the hands of global elites including in this country. Whenever people actually do something meaningful by going actual top to bottom then it’s legitimate change. But until then I truly believe that there is controlled opposition that is used to break momentum of people.

Feel free to delete but I don’t think anything I said is actually controversial at all and we can all agree that there is something so deeply sinister with this country that it begs the question why is nothing be done about it.
