1. WOW - what a move by Florida. The Tkachuk brothers untied on a contending team with a window that should still be open for a WHILE... Good luck to the rest of the league
2. Florida was able to add Brady Tkachuk without giving up a single player from their active roster... Pure futures
Really want to highlight #2 here... This trade is living proof that it IS possible to add good players even if you don't have blue chip prospects / star young players to dangle in the trade. Futures are valuable to teams, and can absolutely get you really good players in return. Again, like I've said many times... You have to get creative & you have to have the mother freaking BALLS to pull the trigger on a trade like this. I'm so tired of hearing "the Kings don't have any assets to trade" and "why would X team be interested in futures" - the NHL trade market can be *VERY* unpredictable and teams can make sometimes surprisingly bad trades.
I understand people wanting the Kings to rebuild instead of making big trades - But let's not act like these guys don't have the assets to seriously improve this roster. It is possible.. You just have to find the right trade partners & be willing to part ways with some (potentially good) picks/prospects.
You forgot one important thing. Players don't want to play for the Kings. And in fairness to the Kings, the one guy that actually did request to go here, they got in a trade.
The team has been horrible for 12 years, the roster is not good, the taxes in CA are astronomical, the travel sucks.
Until the Kings draft the type of players that guys want to play with, and produce the type of results that make guys want to play here, it's going to be tough to overcome the challenges.
