Making the terrible pick is only part of it, there is also the issue of not not being able to move away from it in a timely manner. Especially with how many young assets the Kings have unloaded since they ended the rebuild.

Look at Carolina with Rantanen, sometimes your plans just don't come to be. The good managers are able to adjust on the fly to something like a player being a terrible fit and not signing, or a top 5 pick being a replacement caliber player and pulling the eject lever while there is still some value.

LA was horrible with that facet of asset management under Blake.

Did they not do with that with PLD? I mean, clearly different players, different prices etc, but say what you want, did they not pivot from it, like CAR did?

Yes, but that was the exception and I don't remember the terms of his contract, but that may have been accelerated before a NTC kicked in

And i was actually right for once

Wasn't the general consensus that the Kings were getting Dach or Cozens (with a lot of folks arguing it was too early for Cozens)?

I remember Byram being heavily linked with Colorado at 4 all along and the wide spread assumption that Turcotte was going to be a Hawk at 3.
Yep.

I wanted Byram and the speculation on the night definitely had Turcotte most likely going at #3.

It seemed until Dach was taken that we were getting Dach or Byram. Dach didn’t excite me much, so I saw getting Turcotte as a decent consolation for missing out on Byram who I had ranked at #3.

It was the draft I’ve followed most closely so I’m pretty confident on things.

Huh?

(He would have been third on the Kings, as well.)
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period stated earlier this week that the club was trying to move Spence. We’re told that’s not because the Senators were the least bit disappointed in the way he played and may have more to do with what his camp is seeking on a long-term extension.

The Citizen was told the club wants to get bigger and harder to play against on the back end. If that’s the case, then Spence doesn’t fit that mould.

Trade Doughty+ for Gavrikov.

On a side note, reading the last few pages, I think it’s hilarious that Yanetti is never mentioned in the area of the job he’s supposed to be accountable for. Whoever leaks these things might like him because I cannot imagine a more limp director of scouting than Yanetti. It always reads to me that he’s some poor chimney sweeper that gets disregarded nonstop when giving his opinion. Why doesn’t he leave the Kings if poor old Yannettis thoughts and opinions have as much weight a painting would have to a blind person.

Holland needs a real 1 on 1 with Doughty. Move him this summer for Gavri and sign Trouba. Lavoilette's captain from the Rangers. Dumoulin and Ceci were big mistakes that need to be corrected.

Pretty hilarious to watch teams do this over and over again, especially after Carolina just won the Cup with an assortment of smaller, mobile defensemen.

Spence is due a new contract, 4-6AAV range. Could pay a bit more for a better D.

Spence could still improve & round his game out like Walker.

Yannetti has job security and can blow a draft like '19 without any questions. He's not passing that up for a market that expects results.

All these players with NMC's wanting to be traded to LA!
Gavrikov, Nurse, EP40! Holland must be in heaven this off-season.

Bobrovski might even be interested in joining his buddy!

The scariest thing for King's fans is Holland having options.

I know most here are convinced everything is completely screwed & the Kings are doomed for the foreseeable future... But one thing that's making me cautiously optimistic is that it really does seem like we're poised to see a LOT of roster changes over the summer.

Kuemper may very well get traded
2 of our 6 defensemen will "likely" be replaced
Doughty may even get traded (granted, probably still very unlikely)
Team needs to add at least another middle 6 center - that will shake up the roster

Plus we should see a much different team stylistically with Laviolette behind the bench which should benefit... a LOT of Kings players, especially our main offensive players like: Fiala, Byfield, Panarin, Kempe, and Laferriere (and Clarke too but I was mainly thinking forwards)

I know the biggest thing is that many don't believe Holland will be able to make the *right* changes - And I absolutely get that & share that same concern. But at least for right now, it seems like we may FINALLY see some of the changes we've been hoping for for years.

Edit: We just have to hope Holland does as much trading as possible and stays relatively quiet on the UFA signing side of things. Looking at his track record, it's actually pretty damn clear that he generally does well in trades and generally does horribly when offering UFA contracts. TRADE KENNY TRADE!!!!

Why would the rangers want Doughty in a trade for Gavrikov, makes 0 sense for them
Rangers won't want Doughty and Doughty certainly won't want to go to the Rangers

I'm telling you guys, the trade for Gavrikov is something like this (if it happens):
Dumoulin, 2027 2nd round pick, and a prospect
  • Pretty much any of our LHD prospects could/should be on the table IMO - even Wooley or Booth, who I both really like... Gavrikov would be a sure thing & a much needed upgrade
If Kenny Holland can pull some sh*t like this out of his butt.. that's absolutely a step in the right direction

Based on what? Hope?

Says who? How? Why?

How you gonna get that middle 6 center?

That's certainly the *checks notes* HOPE but... that's assuming changes to the roster....

Hope.

That's what this all comes back to. Hope.

I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that pessimism is the correct path but this blindly optimistic hope based attitudes are exhausting.

Hoven and the Bannermen and others preach "well let's see what Holland does at the trade deadeline, then it becomes the off season then it becomes the NEXT trade deadline.

Holland isn't the new kid on the block anymore. We have a years worth of transactions to judge him on.

Feel like you could look most of this information up for yourself. Probably in less time than it takes to do this reply.

Literally lmao

@HockeyEsoterics everything in my post was based on a various pieces of information that have come from the Kings organization themselves (player interviews, Holland exit interview, Lavoilette press conference, etc) or from information put out to the public by Kings media. I don't have an extensive list of sources for you but that's basically the gist of it... Everything I said is either common knowledge or is based on recent information circulating about the Kings.

And it's not just blind hope. You mentioned "Holland isn't the new kid on the block anymore. We have a years worth of transactions to judge him on." - That's exactly one of my main points. Looking at Holland's track record, he generally does pretty damn well in his trades. So I'm saying hopefully we see more trades than signings this offseason because, also looking at Holland's track record, we know he's typically pretty bad at offering UFA contracts.

I'm not being blindly optimistic by any means... I'm very much aware of the current situation and I literally said in my post that I also have doubts about Holland's ability to make the *right* changes. I was just saying it seems like we may legitimately see some significant roster changes this offseason based on what we're hearing.

It's amazing how low of standards some people around here have.

The new coach says a couple things that people want to hear, and now there's a thought that we're turning things around.

Nevermind that just a month ago our GM sounded completely delusional in his presser.
For the record, I don't believe the front office is going to do anything. We might win a playoff round if everything goes perfectly! I'm excited about the train wreck!

Gavrikov, (Trouba, Parayko, Dougie)
Nurse, Risto
Edmundson, (Doughty,Ceci)
Clarke!

Get it done Holland!

I think we'll end up getting EP40 and Gavrikov back.

Clarke moved for Nemec. Laferierre and Turcotte moved as well.

Kuzmenko re-signed.

Laughton walks, Malott goes unsigned.

One of Kuemper/Forsberg moved.

Something like:

Panarin - Byfield - Kempe
Kuzmenko - EP40 - Fiala
Moore - Kerfoot - Armia
Greer - Helenius - Wright
*Ward, Joseph

Gavrikov - Doughty
Anderson - Nemec
Edmundson - Ceci
*Booth

Forsberg
Portillo

Don’t forget about Rasmus Andersson. Holland went hard after him last year. Will he re sign with Vegas after his terrible playoffs?

I would take Nurse if the Kings can rid of one or both of Ceci or Dumoullin.
Rasmus Andersson sucks. If it's true Holland tried to give up a "whopper" of a package for him (as reported by a legit source) it shows just how clueless Holland is.
