Tortorella: "This falls on me. I’m not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season"

He managed to take a black hole in Scott Laughton and turn him into a first round pick and a prospect.

He does lean to players that play the game the right way.. So if a team doesn't want that, it's probably not a good fit for either party.

I mean there are multiple different ways to play the game the right way. Bedner has his way, Torts has his way, Copper has his way etc. None are wrong.

I find that the best orgs have top down buy in with regards to the teams identity. That means management brings in the right players and prospects, and the right coaches.

With Torts I find he has a lot of success when management and procurement is aligned with his philosophy, but he has issues when they aren't in sync and he's not provided with the types of players he prefers. To be fair this applies to most other coaches as well.

To me it seems the Flyers are going after more of a skill based team with more offensive minded transition dmen. I'm not really sure these player types fit the Torts mold.

Oh man I guess we really should've held onto provorov and kevin hayes and TDA!! We're really missing out!!!

The offense, skill, east west, pp, etc has served TOR so well in the playoffs, eh?
What did you get for Frost and Farabee , Deangelo is playing well for Islanders . He tanked Hayes trade value so you could get nothing for him and the list goes on .

I know you are a Flyers guy cause I use to be part of their forum and all I have to say is if you support him you deserve him . Good luck .

As far as blame goes for the Flyers woes, the list is long and goes back nearly 10 years. Hextall and Fletcher were not good GM’s. Briere may not be good either but this season was a long time in the making. At least the Flyers seem to be headed to an inevitable rebuild which is badly needed. No big name (or even medium name) free agents. The future has to be the priority

The most fascinating thing about this quote to me is that it happened the same day Lindy Ruff said pretty much the exact opposite thing in pretty much the exact same situation.

I don’t believe either guy will figure it out because they have incredibly flawed rosters not built to win anything at this time…but it is an interesting insight into the minds of two prideful guys going through a humbling experience it right now.

I think one thing people are missing here is the players themselves.

I can’t imagine it’s good for morale to hear your coach basically say “nah I don’t really care about what happens the rest of this season”.

Honestly, I think their record is great for their roster. The worst defense I've ever seen, the worst goaltending I've ever seen(I would NEVER blame any goalie on a defense that features 5 forwards on it, but at the same time Samuel Ersson is by far their best goalie), and really bad forwards. I don't know how they win games, let alone almost 40% of them. Ersson has 19 wins and 15 losses, which I find truly magical! I don't know if Torts is a wizard or they just got really lucky or what.

The blame is on Flyers garbage management , hiring torts for a bottom 5 on paper team that should rebuild , nice

I get it’s easy to forget/miss, but Torts actually never signed to be the coach of a rebuilding team.

The Flyers were 1 year removed from being a good playoff team. They had a bunch of injuries and Torts signed with the understanding that he would have a healthy Couturier, Atkinson and Ellis in his disposal at some point in the 22-23 season.

Instead, Ellis never played another game and Couturier/Atkinson missed that entire campaign, and I don’t think the latter 2 were ever the same players they were before when they eventually returned.

He came in as the ”bounce back coach”. I remember him talking about the potential of the team and what a difference it makes to have those guys in the lineup.

I don’t know if the Flyers were completely honest with him or they got the bad injury news after, but I give Torts credit for how he’s handled the team. First 2 seasons they played up to their maximum potential if you ask me. Parts of this year too. Now it just looks bad when the wheels are coming off at the end.

We got out from underneath Farabee's contract.

Hayes tanked his own trade value. He was absolute shite.

I liked TDA, but you really think we messed up letting him go?... if that's the case then the rest of the league did as well.

Well Tippett served up a charmin soft quote yesterday morning about how much trading Frost and Farabee has affected him.

"It's easier to get traded than it is to be on the other end of it."

Holy shit, you need some Midol Tippett?

Those are the babies (with extremely apparent victim syndrome) everyone thinks Torts should be coddling.

JT is a fraud. When he was hired, he said this will be a long rebuild. Now he is crying. Has talked about rebuilding many times this year. JT also has heavy say in decisions made at the NHL level. He is right this is all on him.

He refuses to hold him and his staff accountable. Look at the PP. A disgrace.

Torts once again getting criticized for telling the truth.
But this is the bed he made. He rode players into the ground, publicly called out players to embarrass them, had 2 sets of rules for his accountability, is a lazy POS meaning he himself checked out and would let assistants run the bench while he sat in the pressbox.
I am sure he will do it again because he has lost the room. He can f*** off along with Rocky Thompson and the rest of the lousy staff.

I can understand the venom.. who is coaching this team next? Who wants this?

Laughton was a better player before Torts. Every single player on this roster has regressed since he got the job. The game has passed him by.

Nothing wrong with what he said. In laymen's terms, he's basically saying he refuses to adopt a losing mentality even if it's the most realistic option. That's how you build a losing culture.

This is a team Torts has coached for several years now. Trying to go with the "I did nothing, blame everyone else" is questionable. Torts has some good views about the game, but these are still teams he has coached for years now failing. If I was Briere, I'd probably look to fire him.

Looks like he said this post game after getting shellacked by Toronto.

He is just a miserable man.
