Proposal: Torrey Mitchell (MTL) to the Coyotes for a 3rd in 2017

It's definitely very good for the habs in terms of value.

It doesn't work for Montreal tho, in the present. Torrey Mitchell is a valuable bottom sixer who brings speed (a lot) and grit. He is a very effective 4th liner and PKer.

In the habs situation right now, we rather keep Mitchell instead of having a pick.

For a team just above the cap floor, the Coyotes could take on Desharnais. He's a good player, fans here are just through with him being prioritized over younger more talented players' development. He only carries the 3.5 Mil for a year and then there's always the option to resign if he's interested. I definitely would not be upset if the return was no more than OP asked for Mitchell- then again, it's not up to me.

Honestly, the value is very, very good.. but I wouldn't do it.

With Eller gone, Mitchell is a very good defensive centre and helps us against tougher match-ups. I like Danault, but unless we upgrade our third line C I think we need to keep Mitchell to help with defensive assignments/penalty killing - plus he's our only right handed centre.

I'd do it from a Montreal POV. Mitchell is still useful, but can't turn away that kind of value. Habs have the bodies to cover on the 4th line.

I'd like to see how a guy like De la Rose or Mcarron fairs in camp before making this type of trade.

Value is more than fair though. Actually an overpayment from the Yotes.

Done.

I'm comfortable with Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Desharnais :)()-Danault/McCarron down the middle for one year, I guess.

Mitchell isn't worth a 3rd round.

You can get #grit for a lot cheaper than that.

Mitchell will get you 20 pts while taking 70% of his draws in the d-zone. Hes also a right shot and he plays on the PK.

He brings more than grit to a team.

How is a third rounder an overpayment for a functioning NHL'er? Especially one with outstanding speed and good defensive/PK skills.

Does Mitchell have a bad contract? Cause otherwise, he is what you hope your average third rounders turn out to be.

Nope. $1.2m for two more years. Of all our bottom-six players (and we have a lot of them), Mitchell is the most useful one for the Habs.

I doubt he's dealt. While McCarron may be ready this year, I can see the organization being more patient, letting Desharnais see his final year through and then McCarron replacing him for 17-18 instead of trading Mitchell this year.

Value is more than fair but I would pass. He is the only right handed center on the team. That is needed for defensive zone face offs.

Flynn went for a 5th.

Mitchell went for Jack Nevins and a 7th.

Drewiske went for a 5th.

Weaver went for a 5th.

Holden went for a 4th.

Pirri went for a 6th.

Kindl went for a 6th.

Depth player don't go for 3rd unless they are ''special''.

Both Flynn and Mitchell weren't under contract past that season, tanks value.

Drewiske went for a 5th

Weaver went for a 5th.

Not nearly the player Mitchell is.

Holden went for a 4th.

Inflated offensive numbers due to playing bigger minutes than he's capable of.

Pirri went for a 6th.

There were some strange circumstances around that one.

"Fialkov's source is pretty solid, according to him the information came directly from owner Doug Cifu, who revealed that the team simply did not feel Pirri was part of their top six forward group going forward. An arbitrator awarding Pirri any kind of contract could have left the Panthers with their hands tied, and although they took a loss in the trade they feel they will be better off in the long term."

Worth noting that Pirri is without a job at the moment.

Personally I think he's got a bit of Sam Gagnerittis too. Skillset of a top 6 player without the effectiveness to play there or versatility/low price to be on the 3rd line.

Kindl went for a 6th.

Overpaid bottom pairing D went for peanuts

The other problem with this type of look at value is it's not considering that Montreal presumably likes Mitchell and would need incentive to trade him. Even if you think his value is less then that of a 3rd, Montreal would need a reason to move him.

A 3rd is overpayment for Mitchell, but I agree the Habs prefer Mitchell to the 3rd as of now since they're competing.

Totally agree. The timing isn't right. Danault is still unproven. If he shows promise during the season then at the trade deadline or at the draft you can part ways with Mitchell.

Galchenyuk
Plekanec
McCarron
Danault

would be perfectly fine with me for the next 2 seasons. DD is definitely a sad face but I'm holding out hope that McCarron will force MT's hand. I think we'd be a better team right now with DD as a healthy scratch and McCarron on the 3rd, rather than DD on the 3rd and Mac in the AHL. After the Weber trade we can't make any more excuses for le petit prince, we need to ice the best possible lineup every single game.

I'd also do the trade in the OP pretty easily, I think it's really fair value for both sides. I'd even trade Mitchell + Flynn together for a discount, say a 4th ;)
