GDT: Toronto vs Flyers - March 25th 2025, TSN4

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I don't think that's the case. Hoping to find or have someone else confirm what I recall, which was Zetterberg advised Shanahan to take Nylander despite the apparent questionable reputation floating about.

Shanahan was hired in April 2014, the draft was June 2014. Most amateur scouting meetings are already over/wrapping up by then or the leafs have a good idea of who they are gonna be and starting to assemble lists. I’m sure he had some input, but I’d imagine Thommie Bergman was pushing hard for Nylander. He’s the leafs Swedish scout.

Dave Nonis tenure had some very good picks
Nylander
Verhaege
Andreas Jhonsson
Dakota Joshua
Pierre Engvall

Some 40 goals scorers and one 20 goal scorer
Few late bloomers but overall decent

It’s a long while back but I do believe Shanahan greatly influenced that pick. I think he even talked to Willy’s Dad, Micheal, about his supposed bad habits and attitude.

I’m sure he played a role in the pick. I believe Shanahan mandate was pick skill. I think it was between Nylander and Ehlers, I remember reading they had a very heated debate at the draft table where Thommie Bergman basically pleaded with the org to take Nylander.

Dang Morgan is going to get the Green jacket

And Lanny McDonald.

Saw Lanny in Lethbridge walking out of a 7-11 in about 1987. He was with his family clearly heading on a family trip. I was a huge Flames fan at the time after living south of Calgary for several years plus being a Leafs fan as well.

I lowered my eyes and left him the f*** alone. Not to toot my own horn but more people should do this. If you like them, give them their space.

I fully expect a 6-5 finish. Ok,, I give Leafs credit for an empty netter, 7-5 finish is a fairly safe bet.

A Cup contender shuts the other team down here and continues to try and pad the goals without cheating.
