Chris Johnston is a puppet for player agents, cant stand the guy.
I have been enjoying him less and less over the past year. I don't know why... I just find he says nothing 99% of the time. Usually very middle of the road on all issues and rarely breaks any insider type information. Maybe he was always that way and I never noticed.

I still listen to his pod from time to time when I have nothing else.

He is awful. Probably a HFBoard guy stealing opinions

I've read enough articles that sound like they ripped off a page from one of these threads that I'm convinced mainstream and popular media come on here and borrow ideas and content all the time.

Reading through the archives I'm also 110% convinced that at least three very popular professional bloggers have been on this site for extended periods at various points over the years.

If it sounds familiar there's probably a good reason why.

Pretty sure that's some facts. Jr players, NHL players, Coaches and general super fans of hockey are all here. You never know who you are mixing it up with or who is poaching your ideas lol

Edmonton and Vancouver both got busted with hired influencers on here.

One poster even admitted to being Benning's cousin.

Bob Mckenzie posted here forever ago. Popular public prospect people also post on the prospect board a lot. People that work in the industry definitely know about this site and some would definitely visit it.

Haha that's hilarious.

O'Dog is the best in the business. Pretty sure he is here. I don't know for a fact but, I could see him seeing what people are shit talking about, not to steal ideas but just to kill time while listening to Dregs and shit like that.

Oh and Dregs, 99% that guys here. He needs guidance man lol. Joking

I think the convos people are having like on Overdrive about US being on par with Canada now are way off. Canada has 3 times the amount of 1st round draft picks in the last 5 years and look at the elite talent they have coming in the next few years compared to the US.

He does, for sure.

He must have thrown quite the tirade before he left, because it is pretty clear "he is dead to them". I mean, having watched him for years now, can't say I am surprised.
Odog has publicly called out the Canes owner for being cheap, hence why the Canes do not invite him for any team/ alumni events.

Having I been living under a rock? Hayes used the apres ski today and I've heard that term three times in the last few days but before that I don't think I've ever heard that term and I'm almost 40.

Just to be clear, you are saying you have never heard the term "apres ski" in your life until Hayes said it today?

I mean, yeah, that is a pretty common term... widely used... like, world wide.

They guys use it liberally and and often incorrectly lol

Yea, never heard it until recently. Maybe I've heard it but just didn't realize it.

Hayes, Odog, Jonas has to be the best combination of Overdrive

The amount of arguing over random things is just awesome, it's practically a comedy show for 3 hours.
Said this all along. Jonas absolutely embraces the villain role of making a controversial opinion, but makes it convincing and that leads to some great entertainment.

"Here's the thing Jonas..."

One thing I do find funny/annoying about O'dog, is about how he always scoffs at when it comes up what contracts players are turning down.

"YOU'RE TURNING DOWN 8X5????"

Yeah buddy, he is. Because on the open market someone would pay him 9x6. Just because you got paid peanuts back in the day doesn't mean the the players today (or rather, their agents) don't know what's up.

Today, it was Brock Boeser. Shocked how he wouldn't just take the first deal on the table.

Been trying for years to figure out why people like Joe Bowen. I can't listen to him at all. He never shuts up and it's never play-by-play like, you know, what his job is. I had some errands to do this afternoon so I listened on the radio for the second and beginning of the third and I'm sitting there listening to stories about his mother while you can hear gameplay in the background. Just one example.

What the hell do people see in this guy? He's unlistenable IMO. If it's not half boards and oven mitts and gobbling it up and twine tents, it's stories about him and his family or jokes about Jim Ralph's goaltending. I wish the man no ill-will but WHAT THE HELL DO PEOPLE SEE IN THIS GUY? It's absolutely awful. Shut the eff up and call the game Joe. That's the job and that's why you're not on TV anymore.

I remember when he used to do tv games in the late 00's and early 10's people here would complain about him constantly. But after seeing the rotating cast of mundane, corporate, "balanced" tv play by play guys that Sportsnet has trotted out since 2012 a lot of opinions have changed. A lot of fans want a fan calling regional games where the pxp guy is genuinely excited when something big happens.

There is probably some rose coloured glasses for a lot of fans on Bonesy at this point but I think there is a middle ground. He's not incredible but he is a passionate fan and can be very fun to listen too.

He’s lost his fastball, that’s for sure. Is he still not traveling with the team and doing play by play by watching the TV.

The thing is, he hasn't lost his fastball He's still one of the best in the business. He's sharp as a tack. I could never do that job. He just needs to shut the f up and call the plays and stop with the stories, jokes, tired analogies and puns. And for the record, I prefer a homer for Leafs broadcasts. He'd be perfect if he could ever stop being a caricature of himself.

Edit: Jim Ralph on the other hand makes me smile every time, He sounds like a drunk Dick Van Dyke and I always wonder if he's sidestepping or tripping over the ottoman.

Every other team in the NHL gets a Homer to do their local market TV games. RSN and TSN only put on the neutral national guys on TV because theyre lazy.... Or in RSN case overcompensate and we have a bias against the Leafs on a Leafs home broadcast. It's infuriating

Joe Bowen is the ONLY person who calls games that is an actual Leaf fan. And as a Leaf fan that's what I want and I don't care If he screws up a couple of time or is bias. And to be fair for Road Games he is forced to call the game off of the TV broadcast which is difficult

Facts.. the over-compensation for the perceived worries of non-Leaf markets is sooo tired. Get a homer and get over it. People hate-watching shouldn’t be catered to, anyway.
Amazon gon' take that money if they don't wise up.
