Definitely not as aggressive/feisty as I thought he'd be but he's doing ok adding speed and tenacity.

Totally agree. Its more his line and he is forced to actually own the puck more. More straight forward.

I don't want to confuse it with Manrer criticism, but he seems more involved in playmaking and not just waiting in space for Marner to find him.

I still don’t get how he can shoot like that but on the pp he looks lost af. He’s gotta get back to skating, stickhandling, and shooting like he was earlier in the season.

Yeah we’ve seen enough Matthews to know what that full engagement, dialed in hockey looks like.
