Proposal: Toronto - Montreal Trade

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
It also ensures there is no quality depth to come in and replace ageing and overpriced vets. Something Toronto and Edmonton are very aware of.
I wouldn't trade Zharovsky for Will Cuylle + 2 high picks and another young D prospect in Engstrom. That's crazy. Cyulle has that size and edge but probably tops out as a 20 goal scorer. Zharovsky also plays the premium portion at C.
Some of you seem to forget Montreal is missing that 2C right now.
Well, then you’re not serious about winning right now - and Knies is better than Cuylle.

He’d basically replace Gallagher’s cap hit.

Read my answer above.
And more serious than the oilers, that's for sure - who have no clue how to build a team, depth or prospects
I think you’re overrating the hell out of Zharovsky. Yes he looks really good but the transition to NA hockey can be brutal. Don’t put the expectations of being another Demidov out of the gate on him.

Edit: not worth arguing about team building with Habs fans riding high on a series win right now.

Talk more when you make a Cup final big dog. Squeaking by Tampa on a lucky bounce and unsustainable goaltending shouldn’t make your britches that big.
when did I say he was Demidov?
k i'll keep your sage advice in mind about squeaking, lucky and whatever else you wrote. TB was a cup favourite; show some respect.
And It isn't about my britches, habs are still a work in progress and shouldn't be emptying their prospect pool for another winger.
And good luck finding a goalie like Dobes, or even fowler for that matter...your team sure could use one

We can talk about team building when the endorphins from your lucky win wear off ;)

Zharovsky looks like he's going to be quite good. I still think its light considering the 1st and 2nd are going to be late picks.

I don't see the Leafs trading Knies unless its for a substantial overpayment.
The whole point for the 2nd is to compensate for the 1st being late. On average, a 2nd round pick is enough on the Draft floor to move up 4 spots in the 1st round..... as long as you find a dance partner looking to move down some spots.

I'd argue that seeing Edmonton and Toronto fail, largely due to taking shortcuts and trading picks by the bushel, influences many of us more than recent success.
I'm not saying that trading to fill holes won't be the right route, but giving 4 assets for one while still early in the contention window doesn't seem wise. In particular when that "one" doesn't fill a gaping need (whereas in contrast Dobson did fill a huge gap).

Knies + Carlo + (early) 3rd '26
for
Hage + Pickford + (late) 1st '26

Pickford put up some very impressive numbers in the WHL this year looking at his stats. Is it optimistic to say his skillset will translate well to the pro game, and has he passed Reinbacher on the depth chart?

Feel like this would be beneficial for both teams where their currently at. Might be a bit of an overpay long term by Montreal but Knies is a unique player signed long term in his prime years, plus the fact its a Leafs/Habs inner division trade as Montreal identifies their guy and get him.

I would make that trade from the Habs point of view.

But like you said Hage might end up being better then Knies.

Outside of Hutson (which I know he's not available duh) - I have no interest in anything Montreal could offer for Knies.

I don't want "pieces" or magic beans either. Knies is a unicorn in this league and he's young enough to be apart of our next wave, I think we're inevitably going to rebuild.
