Were the Olympics a coincidence? We did after all beat Chicago right after them. But our D has not even been close to the same. I mean not even close. What happened?

I have to say I'm surprised how positive this board is. I was really disappointed with the O for half the time I was watching and the D looked shaky too.

My concept lineup:

Nash-BR-MSL
McD-Diaz

Kreider-Brass-Zucc
Staal-Stralman

Hags-Step-Pouliot
Falk-Girardi

Carbomb-Moore-Boyle

A few things, we suck when don't play our game. We don't play our game when a team manage to pressure our Ds to revert into that throwing the puck away style. We need more poise with the puck from our blueline.

I like that AV gives his lines time. But I am sorry, K-S-N isn't working and K is living on old merits. For any kind of longer period, he has ONLY been good when playing with Zucc EVER in the NHL. Get him next to Zucc again and a bit away from the spotlight. He is coming along fine, but he needs more TIME. He is still pretty clueless in some areas.

Would gladly give him the Canes to light a fire under Hank's ass.

Got no problem giving Talbot a start. Henrik might need a rest. That said, I thought he played fine today. You can't do much about a penalty shot or the goals he let up. Today was a game of defensive gaffes on the Rangers part. Bad ones too.

That McDonagh play on the GWG was very uncharacteristic of him. I think this one was one of McDonagh's worst games of the season. Out the gate, the Rangers looked fantastic in terms of their defensive play coming back from the Olympics. They literally kept everything to the outside in the first 59 minutes of the game against Chicago. Ever since that last minute, and the last couple of games... I don't know.

These last couple of games, they've stumbled defensively. Especially this one. Way too much of a slot presences for Toronto in this game and too many missed assignments. When man-to-man is working it looks great. When you see players being careless out there, like McDonagh was at the end of the game, it's evident to see some of it's downfalls.

Not too worried about it though. This was a game that could have gone either way. Grade A chances on each side. Exciting game. At the end of the day it came down to one bad mistake by a defense man that left Bozak wide open directly in front of the net. I don't think the Rangers necessarily deserved to win this one. I don't think they outplayed the Leafs, it was extremely competitive.

We'll see how next game goes. The Hurricanes will be a tough game. Give Talbot the start for the next game and see how he does. After the Olympics and three consecutive losses for Lundqvist, he probably just needs to clear his head. Right after the Hurricane's game though, you have to go right back to Lundqvist.

One of the biggest mistakes AV made all season was playing mind games with his franchise goaltender. Lundqvist is going to be the go to guy down the stretch and in the post season. Can't have the coach try and shake his confidence now. As much as everyone on here believes Talbot can win this team a Stanley Cup (you would really think that on here with how people praise him, stating he is the best Canadian goaltender), he isn't going to be the guy to do it. And deep down, we all know Lundqvist is a better goaltender than him. Lundqvist was just playing out of his mind for two consecutive months and into the Olympics. We just need him to get back to that. And like I said, can't mess with his head too much by giving Talbot too many starts down the road. I'm all for giving Talbot a game here or there to rest what has been a long season for Henrik though.

I'm just tired of being negative all the time. Honestly, I can't stand it on here. Way too negative. Every loss, three to five players get crucified and the team has to be blown up. I don't think people realize the significant ups and downs of an 82 game season. And this game wasn't really a bad game. Team played alright, outside of a few, significant defensive mistakes. Team has looked shaky defensively, but they're also coming off a long Olympic break with a roster that had a ton of players at the Olympics. They might just need to find their groove.

More people on here need to be positive. I'm not about to butcher Nash for one game. Even if it has been an up and down season. I'm also tired of criticizing Stepan. If I criticized Stepan every time he had a bad game that's all I would be doing on here. I can literally complain about half the roster if I wanted too, but it's like beating a dead horse. Similar to you with Lundqvist :sarcasm:

Just take every game in stride. It's a long season. No need to freak out after every loss.

Ola, I generally like your posts and I know it's still early, but where did that come from? I mean Diaz on our 1st defensive pair? Diaz has the tendency to get stuck in his own zone badly. He's pressured easily and his play along the boards is below average, to put it nicely. He's good at transitioning through the neutral zone. I could see us giving Klein-Diaz a shot against weaker competition (as we could also try him on the PP), but putting him with McD dosn't solve any of our problems.

Falk on the 3rd pairing isn't bothering me itself, but there are at least 7 defensemen on this team that are better. Due to the system Vigneault plays, make that 8 because Allen's the more mobile type. Falk doesn't have the skating to chase guys around man-on-man.

Agree on your Kreider-stance.

If I had to guess, I'd say Zucc and MSL are going to be our two hardest working forwards from here on out. Which is a problem because they're both pretty damn small.

Yeah, unlike the 7' giant Ryan Callahan. :(

It's a problem because there are people getting paid more money, and have more expected of them who are dogging it.

Kreider, Stepan, and Nash have been a brutally disengaged line since the Olympics ended.

Phaneuf was nailing people all night, nobody did nothing, the only one who flattened him was Dom Moore, he then cross checked the big moron about 5 times, Dom was the best Ranger on the ice. The only other Ranger to throw a check was Pouliot. Hagelin, Kreider, Stepan, Dorsett are all crap...real smart putting Dorsett on Brass and Pou's line to ruin it, JT Miller has been playing well so send him down.... Hagelin is fast and thats it, he has no ****in' skill at all, bad shot , bad hands, Phaneuf knocked him down 20 times last night, softer than my dog's stool...WTF happened to Kreider...should have begged Vancouver to take Stepan for Kesler and a pick....I guess it all wasn't Cally's fault...huh! Welcome MSL to this dysfunctional pile of *******!

Yeah I agree, if not for Toronto's gifts we're looking at another loss where Mr 8.5 gets outplayed again. To his defense, pun intended, they were atrocious. All 3 goals were gaffes. I mean come on what were Girardi and McD both doing going behind the net in ot? The Richards line looked good minus Hagelin who should not be there. Dizzy Dip**** should not be with Brass and Poo. 4th line looked good. The first line again was a disappointment. Nash had a couple noticeable shifts that was it. Kreider has really taken a nose dive. And don't get me started with Stepan.

Am I the only one who thought Lundqvist was himself last night? No softies, and stoned the Leafs several times.

Probably the worst game of McDonagh's season. And the Rangers as a whole gave up way more point-blank opportunities than normal. AV has to tighten things up, they look rusty on their own side of the red line post-Olympic break.

*I thought he looked sharp. It's so easy to tell when he's off/on his game. Plain as day in his movements, not battling the puck, etc. Hopefully he can get back in stride. And yeah, Kessel/JVR had their way with our defense last night, they were just walking right in; you can't give Phil the Thrill that much time and space (i.e. see OT winner).

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

Was or wasn't? Lots of Lundqvist apologists here so I am sure you have many people on your side. All great goalies give up 16 goals in a 4 game span. Good thing he never has to fight for a salary again. Bozak, Hamilton, Campbell, Schenn, Peter Regin ALL legit goal scorers. It's probably the Defense's fault.

(edit: the Regin goal was Cam...can I swap in prolific goal scorer Olli Maata?)

I like to think of myself as objective on this topic. For the money he's paid, I do expect him to bail out his defense more than most goalies in the league would. That said, I thought he passed the eye test last night.

I'm usually mad after loses. I'm not after this one. The rangers showed up and played OK. Hank was fine. We lost because of very ****** defense.

Completely agree. Krieder - Stepan - Nash sucks as a unit. But putting all three of your top scores on one line doesn't always work out the way you want...
