Would gladly give him the Canes to light a fire under Hank's ass.
Got no problem giving Talbot a start. Henrik might need a rest. That said, I thought he played fine today. You can't do much about a penalty shot or the goals he let up. Today was a game of defensive gaffes on the Rangers part. Bad ones too.
That McDonagh play on the GWG was very uncharacteristic of him. I think this one was one of McDonagh's worst games of the season. Out the gate, the Rangers looked fantastic in terms of their defensive play coming back from the Olympics. They literally kept everything to the outside in the first 59 minutes of the game against Chicago. Ever since that last minute, and the last couple of games... I don't know.
These last couple of games, they've stumbled defensively. Especially this one. Way too much of a slot presences for Toronto in this game and too many missed assignments. When man-to-man is working it looks great. When you see players being careless out there, like McDonagh was at the end of the game, it's evident to see some of it's downfalls.
Not too worried about it though. This was a game that could have gone either way. Grade A chances on each side. Exciting game. At the end of the day it came down to one bad mistake by a defense man that left Bozak wide open directly in front of the net. I don't think the Rangers necessarily deserved to win this one. I don't think they outplayed the Leafs, it was extremely competitive.
We'll see how next game goes. The Hurricanes will be a tough game. Give Talbot the start for the next game and see how he does. After the Olympics and three consecutive losses for Lundqvist, he probably just needs to clear his head. Right after the Hurricane's game though, you have to go right back to Lundqvist.
One of the biggest mistakes AV made all season was playing mind games with his franchise goaltender. Lundqvist is going to be the go to guy down the stretch and in the post season. Can't have the coach try and shake his confidence now. As much as everyone on here believes Talbot can win this team a Stanley Cup (you would really think that on here with how people praise him, stating he is the best Canadian goaltender), he isn't going to be the guy to do it. And deep down, we all know Lundqvist is a better goaltender than him. Lundqvist was just playing out of his mind for two consecutive months and into the Olympics. We just need him to get back to that. And like I said, can't mess with his head too much by giving Talbot too many starts down the road. I'm all for giving Talbot a game here or there to rest what has been a long season for Henrik though.
