It was a weak draft for Sweden overall. They had some talented guys up top, but it evaporated pretty fast after the 2nd or 3rd round.

Really outside of the CHL, it was pretty disappointing... and a lot of the good CHLers went undrafted.

This was just a weak draft all over. The fact that we were able to extract 5 or 6 good prospects on top of a number of solid projects is pretty good.
 
The people obsessed with big guys should like this pick. He plays a physical game.

Despite the teams embarrassing lack of success the team continued to draft the exact same kind of players as they always have since Dubas has been involved .

The teams that are successful in this league are a combination of high skill , high compete and grit .
Would be nice if the Leafs got their head out of their ass and recognized this and drafted a diversified group of players that reflect this .

Dubas hasn’t been GM long enough for draft vision to even be evaluated. But the early report card for drafting is very good.

If Dubas reached for a bunch of face punchers those players still wouldn’t be in the NHL yet and Leafs would still not have won a playoff round.

The funny thing is that Leafs do acknowledge grit is important, but their definition of grit is a lot different than most. The organisation values strength (typically not something you worry about drafting an 18yr old) and work ethic as grit, and that is something the Leafs have been getting a lot of in rounds 1-3/4, without trading away IQ.
 
Looks like he's played just eight games with Western Michigan as a sophomore. Is this due to injury or performance?

Remember there was some discussion when he didn't make the NTDP program.

Where is his game now?
 
They don't all pan out :)

Should have drafted a Swede in the 7th round lol.
