Don’t know why this came across my algorithm….but man….folks in Western Canada seem to get really bothered when the Leafs coming to town. LOL.

I don’t even know what to call this phenomenon…a one sided rivalry? To me, it’s like a like a toxic mix of hating Leafs fans, hating Toronto media, hockey rivalries, politics, the inability to accept Ontario’s dominance, racism and inferiority complexes all fused together into this torch of rage.

And it’s funny how this torch gets passed around too….mid 2000s and early 2010s, Vancouver held this torch….seems like over the past two years Edmonton has taken. Guess it depends what team is doing well at the moment? I don’t even know….I just find their mentality really weird.

Constant victimhood, constant whining….I lived in Calgary during school and anytime I mentioned I was from Toronto (well Waterloo, but I consider it GTA/Toronto), they’d start acting all defensive without knowing LOL.

“Oh did you know we have the tallest building west of Toronto in Canada”….I was like….okay? I didn’t even know that was a thing.

Also, I don’t know what they teach folks in Alberta about equalization payments, but they would bring it up every week. I used to keep quiet and not make a big fuss, but then I’d start replying snarkly about how Ontario has never taken any payments (only for a few years during the 09 recession). And I’d also point out how Canada’s history didn’t begin in 1950, and that prior to 1951…Ontario was being tasked to fund “have not” provinces like Alberta from 1905 onwards.

Like I said, the whole thing is just weird to me.

The Leafs/Habs…Toronto/Montreal….Ontario/Quebec….English/French rivalry makes sense to me. It’s rooted.

This I just don’t get at all.

Maybe Western Canada Leafs fans could help me out.

Did you know Canada has the world’s largest hole? Yup. It’s located in Edmonton. Kinda smelly though.

Yup Edmonton folk have a deranged obsession.

He has also admitted that he closely follows the Leafs and watches their games even. It's just pandering to the Edmonton fanbase, dude spends all his summers here

McDavid, Leon and Darnell are constantly spotted in Yorkville with their significant others throughout the year.

Probably the best Toronto is going to look lineup wise pre deadline, unless Jarnkrok comes back. I just hope they can string together a decent game tonight.

I’m at the point when I wouldn’t mind a 5-4 or 6-5 OT loss

Ideally we win like 4-2 or 5-1 or something along those lines but score some goals please.

Expecting to be blown out, hopeful for a strong team win. Our group struggles BADLY against fast rush teams. Team will need to be dialed in as a 5 man unit in the neutral zone or else they are going to run through us.

We cannot let them be coming into our zone with speed all night long. McDavid will do it a few times, it's McDavid but we can't have the RNH and such pulling that garbage.

The Leafs beat the Oilers in November. I imagine this game will be a lot like that one.

I think the Leafs bounce back with a win in Edmonton tonight. Matthews always seems to get up for a game against McDavid and getting Tavares and Knies back should really help their scoring issues. Betting Leafs in Reg and the under.

Anti Leafs sentiment has been on the decline since the North division. At that time there was a fear that the Leafs would be the team to end Canada’s cup drought. That no longer is the case for most people.
On a political level nothing has changed as far as the east/ west divide is concerned. The majority of federal elections are decided before our (bc) polls close and any ballots have been counted. That shouldn’t and doesn’t sit well with the majority. I don’t expect that to change anytime

so McDavid to Leafs not happening then eh? 🤔

Here’s my theory about McDavid. If the Oilers win a cup before his contract is up, he’ll leave and come to the Leafs because he’ll have done his duty for the team and will always be a hero there and gets to become a hero in Toronto as well by leading the team to the promised land which for a local kid is a bigger dream. If they don't win a cup in Edmonton he might leave too but I think the odds are less likely.

Potential cup finalists (lol) If they don't show up for this forget about the deep run
