If I were to guess at what happened it would be he hurt himself vs Detroit last year when he crashed into the boards on the 70th goal attempt and screwed soenthing up, derailed his 70th goal pursuit and ruined our playoffs campaign and has been dealing with something ever since. Maybe that’s causing the sensitivity to wanting to keep things private cause came on a very individual pursuit.

Honestly I don’t really remember the nature of what happened to him that game but his problems look identical to the last time he was out with mysterious injuries and couldn’t shoot for half a season. It’s the only injury that would completely explain how sloppy he looks in almost every situation that isn’t firing a shot that’s all wrists.

I’m not trying to make excuses because if it really is a chronic back injury we’ve probably seen his best years already and he’ll either be out of the league or a limited PP specialist by the end of his current deal. It’s the type of issue that goes from “what’s wrong with him” to “we just hope he can have an ok quality of life after hockey” really quick.
