Firing lasers on the PP is the lowest physical effort thing you can do that gets you paid and keeps the media off your back. Scoring on breakaways is a close second. If he’s half assing it defensively and on the boards but scoring effortlessly sure I’ll buy that he got paid and got lazy, but he’s visibly completely off on the easy natural talent offensive stuff.

I’d imagine if I just got paid a shitload of money and decided to stop caring, blocking shots and PKing would be the last thing I’d want to do.

We don’t know what’s wrong with him physically, but the way he plays looks like the head isn’t in the game because it isn’t just one thing. It’s up and down effort level, judgement, passivity, questionable conditioning. Shot miscalibrated.
