Um.
I have a real hard time taking you seriously when you state Fantilli is an upgrade on Matthews, for now.
And while Matthews is an upgrade on Fantilli right now, he's not enough of one to justify losing both KJ and Mateychuk as well (both of whom are playing huge roles in that same playoff run).
Hmm.

I made a typo on post #73. Here’s the amended post as I mixed up the 2 names:

I have a real hard time taking you seriously when you state Matthews is an upgrade on Fantilli, for now. And then proceed to blow a gasket when I mention blue chippers in reference to a kid who’s played a grand total of 22 games.

1) CBJ will be very blessed if Fantilli gets anywhere close to Matthews in his career. He’s a great player but he’s multiple tiers below Matthews currently.

2) if Matthews was a jacket you would be out here in war paint as you’d see the value he brings on and off the ice. You simply don’t understand it. And that’s ok, he’s a polarizing player that markets himself. CBJ has never had that.

3) again. For the 3rd time. I don’t do this deal as a CBJ fan/GM. But not for the silliness that’s spewed on this board.

What Fantilli, Johnson, and Mateychuk bring that Matthews does not is long term control. All three are young RFA's with two still on their ELCs. For a team like Columbus, that is extremely important.

Matthews's abilities aside, I really don't want the CBJ to gamble their entire future on him staying in 3 years.

So now your objection is to the idea that Fantilli doesn't have elite upside.

And I watch the Leafs. I'm quite aware of who Matthews is. Please cut it out with these "you rubes can't possibly know hockey and hockey stars" insinuations; it's insulting and rude in addition to being inaccurate.

Trading for Matthews is a "win now" move he's in his prime. Any team giving up roster players better have insane depth which CBJ doesn't. This trade would hurt both teams.

Leafs don't do it, because they have a chance to bring the first cup in 30 years to Canada.
Jackets don't do it, because they are just now seeing the results (rewards) of the previous 4 years (bottom feeding) of rebuilding.
