Should be a good one tonight.
Start time is awful but the atmosphere at these Western games makes them a lot of fun to watch.

Calgary is a hard working team, sort of team that gives Toronto trouble if they decide they want to go out for a pleasure skate.
No free bees from Skinner tonight. Wolf (7th round pick!!) has given the Flames as good or better goaltending than Woll and Stolarz. .917 SV% and 2.50 GAA

He's even more impressive if you do GAA/inch or GAA/lbs or expected Vezinas

I've caught a few late games, Wolf is a stud, great grab for them.

I know Calgary has done pretty well this year but when you look up and down their roster they don’t look like a very good team. Leafs should win this one.

Tough ask if Marner is in fact out.
This group has a tendancy to step up when one of the big guys are out. Would expect nothing less if Marner is missing. Though, Marner is usually the one stepping up the most and is the biggest loss becuase of all the different areas he impacts the game.

Tough ask, but a true contending team should be able to deal with it for one game.

If Marner is out, looking at Matthews to carry the team in this one... he is due to do something big like that imo.

Not true when Marner is out.

20-17-5 without Marner
45-24-2 without Matthews
46-39-12 without Nylander

Yeah that's what I was referring to is his overall impact and usage.
For as much as he's hated the coach still uses him the most and leans on him in all situations.

Wolf has been solid for them, Saros esq.. But with that size, the screens in front of the net and players with elite shots can pick the open holes on you.

That's got to include some really old stuff, since Nylander has missed only one regular season game since the start of the 2021-22 season. (298 games).

Even using those figures, the points % with Marner or Nylander out is virtually identical.

This game matthews needs to take that Marner role

When Matthews goes down Marner takes a bigger role two way and nylander becomes a better goal scorer to mask Matthews’s absence and JT takes over 1C duties

If Marner is out now it’s Matthews’s turn to play heavy minutes on the PK, whilst still contributing offence and doing so with a bit lesser talent. Nylander needs to continue to produce and domi needs to step up here.

That’s what should happen when he’s the main guy and makes more than Marner. Let’s see how it unfolds
