GDT: Toronto at Canes - as if HFB didn't have enough going on today

After an awful start the Canes really took over...lots of offensive chances in that game! Good for Staal to get that hatty! Also, Kooch had a nice "recovery" from those 2 early goals and made some fantastic saves to keep the Canes going.

Thank you. Where are all the assessments of the others performance per $ vs results? I have always been curious re: what drives favoritism? Why are some held to impeccable standards whereas others have a rather endless runway and forgiveness re: mistakes, slow starts and performance? Sadly for Necas, he's not a beloved.

It's interesting to me that so many want Petey..when he doesn't want to be here Probably, due to the culture of our market. Just look at the comments re: Pride night on our social.

I want Pettersson for one reason and one reason only: it's unbelievably hard to acquire a 1C-quality guy via trade, especially a guy who is locked for 7 more years. I have no hard feelings about anyone who may get dealt in such a trade. We as an organization have wanted our version of the Eichel trade or the Tkachuk trade for years now. This is our opportunity.

I can appreciate that but you are desiring a player who jolted to sign a contract under threat of being traded here. He wanted to wait for the offseason to make a deal. As much as we'd all love to believe it's a desirable landing spot, perhaps it's really not for some either due to market size, culture or style of play. So, you force someone to be here for an extended term?

To be fair, it may not be that he doesn’t want to play here. It may be that he preferred to stay in Vancouver over being traded here, which is a perfectly reasonable position, considering he’s only known Vancouver and apparently has no desire to leave. Even with the trade rumors going about, it’s nothing about not wanting to play for the Canucks. It’s an interpersonal conflict with another player.

My expectation is that the guy who gets dealt in Vancouver in this scenario is JT Miller, who we won't need to give up the moon for. In fact, I would wait until the offseason when we'll have enough cap space to trade for him outright without any need to deal matching contracts.

He recently stated he wants to play for Vancouver or he would not have signed.

If it were all up to Pettersson, he would remain in Vancouver.

"Yeah, of course," he said. "That's why I signed here. Of course."

The 26-year-old only just signed an eight-year extension worth $92.8 million with the Canucks last March.

This Canes team is a head scratcher. They looked awful those first 10 minutes. But absolutely controlled the play the final 50. Toronto is a good team, was on a 5 game winning streak, and 2nd in the Eastern Conference.

We’ve had some big wins the last week or two. Hoping this is the game that finally gets the team consistently going again.

I'm wondering if there's a bit of energy conservation going on this regular season. It's quite possible that the Canes want to save their best hockey for the postseason this time.

Games like this are a reminder that a lot of what happens in a hockey game doesn’t conform to analysis and is borderline random. We don’t really know what we’re talking about and that’s the fun of it all.
