Toronto
Toronto isn't a hockey town, it's a Leafs town.
#1 hockey town in the world. More NHL players come from the GTA than any town in the world. Must be because more kids play hockey than any other town in the world, it certainly isn’t magic water. However as a hockey spectator town, yeah you are probably correct it’s all Leafs screw the other teams. lol!

A few years ago it spent some time looking up hockey arenas in the gta. Counting outdoor rinks there were around 200 hockey rinks in the GTA., must be a lot of people actually playing the game.

It used to be like that around here, but it's really not anymore. The honeymoon period's been over for a bit with the core now and the media seems to be getting that memo too.

The days of Zeke parading around charts that say Marner is better than Kucherov are sorta long gone. And I'm pretty sure the Kerfoot > Kadri take was a take exclusive to him and Dekes, nobody else was stupid enough to believe that.

Mitch said it himself:, gods, they're gods.
Mitch didn't say that.

Things Leafs fans have defended:

- Babcock is the best coach in NHL and sports history
He was better than Keefe. Maybe not a good person or weird. Wasn't there myself.
- Marner has Gretzky like vision
This is a joke. Media fed joke.
- Kerfoot is a better hockey player than Kadri
Dubas fed this bs
- Kadri is a better hockey player than prime Tavares
No but he can contribute in a meaningful way when refs don't goad him into spazzing out and getting suapended.
- Rielly is an elite 1d
Never believed it myself. He is good though.
- Matthews is better than McDavid
Never seen that. He is a better goal scorer and deserves to get paid well for it.
- Matthews is the best player in the league
Basically the same as above.
We are always looking to find some hype train to ride and blow it way out of proportion. Now people are doing the same thing with Rod because he was a phenomenal respected hockey player and now we must ride his coattails based on the hype. Just like ppl did with Babcock because an overtime victory with by far the most stacked roster by leaps and bounds in the Olympic finals is really a great reflection of good coaching and execution and puts him over every other NHL coach who never got such an opportunity.
We have a click bait media.

Most of our media don't want to piss the owners off because they may be employed by Bell or Rogers next year.

Nothing hype train about it, Matthews is literally on pace to be the greatest goal scorer of all time, hasn't done shit in the playoffs. Marner is probably top 20 in terms of production in the season last 20 years. Tavares was a legit top 10C in the league for a while, all of them disappear in the playoffs.

Nylander and Rielly have been better in the playoffs, so you add all that together you'd expect a run or two.

It's not even cup or bust, if they were legit contenders every year and had a cup appearance, I think 90% of reasonable fans would be happy.

This team has failed utterly and spectacularly, I think failure is somewhat ok if it hasn't been so top down as well. Shanahan was trash, Dubas was trash, Keefe was trash and they all more or less are off the hook (like the players).

They squandered arguably the most talented team we've had in 60 years.

It's so bad that there is an outside chance one of McDrai may outscore Matthews/Tavares/Nylander/Marner's CAREER playoff production in a single year. Hyman may score more goals in a single playoffs than Nylander's entire playoff career, he has already outscored Tavares (his toronto stats anyways) and Marner. I use Edmonton as a comparable because people thought Matthews and co were on that level (not even CLOSE while being paid the same/more than McDrai)

This team legit had a chance to win a cup and go on RUNS, but due to sheer typical Leaf incompetence that funneled its way down to the players, they failed. Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander/Rielly have in a single playoffs 2 more wins than Kadri and Kessel.

There’s nothing wrong with Toronto Maple Leafs fans who dream big dreams for their players and hope for miraculous achievements for their team.

Every fanbase does the same thing and every year someone in the league wins a scoring title, someone’s mid round goalie prospect turns into a Vezina. Someone’s coach is headed towards GOAT status. Someone’s GM is actually a genius. Someone plans a Stanley Cup parade that actually happens.

Fans dreaming big pay the bills. The problem is not the fans when things don’t work out. It’s not the media’s fault either. It’s not the hype. Or the money. It’s just the players falling short playing a kid’s game and that’s the only problem there’s ever been.
