Torey Krug not expected to play again

This is exactly why I think the macho culture in NHL hockey is toxic. Playing through injuries shouldn't be romanticized. If you're injured, you should be mandated to heal said injury before playing again.
I agree on general principle with this, but I also understand that it's not realistic because there's always some kid knocking on the door to take your role away and being a professional athlete, while lucrative, has a shorter career lifespan than most so earning potential is both risky and more short-term.

Not exactly the same situation as a professional or a blue collar union worker.

Either way, all the best to Krug. Too bad he had to go out this way.

Jesus, it's been what like 8 months since he had surgery and he's just now getting back to everyday life? That really is shitty to hear. I hope whatever he does it allows him to live a normal life.

Ya, fusion surgery is no joke from my limited understanding.

And agreed on all that- people crap on him from when he was already downhill, great player before that. Hope he has a happy pain free retirement.

He's a grown man, he made his own decision. Baby-proofing the world of adults is toxic af.

I hope so too, for Krug's sake.

But fusion surgery is often the gateway to osteoarthritis later down the line unfortunately.

Krug will unfortunately very likely not stay pain-free into his 50s so I really, really hope he has some great, active years before that.
