I agree on general principle with this, but I also understand that it's not realistic because there's always some kid knocking on the door to take your role away and being a professional athlete, while lucrative, has a shorter career lifespan than most so earning potential is both risky and more short-term.This is exactly why I think the macho culture in NHL hockey is toxic. Playing through injuries shouldn't be romanticized. If you're injured, you should be mandated to heal said injury before playing again.
Not exactly the same situation as a professional or a blue collar union worker.
Either way, all the best to Krug. Too bad he had to go out this way.
