Where are people getting the information that Raddysh wouldn't have signed in Tampa? The only rumor that was around was from Dave McCarthy saying that Tampa made a lowball offer of 5.75m, that Raddysh obvious never would've signed. Seems to me like Raddysh got the Stamkos treatment, where Tampa gave him a take it or leave it offer, and when he didn't, he was out.

Not sure I have seen anyone present that story. My understanding is he wanted to stay in Tampa and they offered him something closer to 6. When common ground could not be found they looked at alternatives. His next choice was Toronto so they did what they could to get something from it.

Mainly from local people that have heard stuff through the grapevine. Take it with a grain of salt.

I may be proven wrong, by Raddysh having a good/great season next season.

But the Tampa Bay Lightning facilitating a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs (a division rival) makes me suspect two things:

1) Tampa Bay doesn't think much of Raddysh or his abilities, or else they wouldn't be doing this with a division rival.

2) No other team thinks much of Raddysh or his abilities, or else they would have made the same offer that Toronto made and would have gotten him instead of Toronto due to Tampa Bay presumably preferring that a good player is out of their division.

Seems like Tampa Bay said: "Oh, an offer? Good. Here you go!".

There is this thing called unrestricted free agency in which the team no longer controls where a player signs. Look it up. It's fascinating.

Whether or not this is true, there has never been any evidence presented that he wanted to stay in Tampa.

The only evidence is that Tampa made an initial offer. There is no evidence that his agent brought a counter offer. There is no evidence that Tampa made a subsequent offer.

Tampa making an initial offer doesn't infer anything about what Raddysh wanted. Last year Toronto made several offers to Marner. Does that mean that he wanted to stay but they couldn't come to a deal? Not at all, Marner's mind was made up not just that he was leaving, but where he was going to.

As for looking for alternatives, if he told them that his plan was to sign in Toronto, that makes the looking for alternatives pretty simple.

There were people like Kyprios, and at least one poster on this board who claims to know the family, who months ago said that Raddysh was coming to Toronto for family reasons. Not maybe coming. Definitely coming. Maybe they were making that up, but evidence far more supports their claims.

Hiller: “Ok Darren, just do whatever you did last year.”
Raddysh: “You mean receive fantastic coaching on a talented team that put me in the best position to succeed?”
Hiller: “Great start, you’ll do well with the media here. We both will. This will all go fine.”

Mirtle on his latest podcast also said that Raddysh has always had interest in Toronto and didn't want to wait till July 1 to get a deal done

There's no way to verify it, but it does seem like he wanted to go home

Mike Matheson also just recorded a 37 points season without any PP time. This isn’t as extraordinary as you want to believe.

Matheson vs Raddysh is an interesting comparisan to say the least.

Both are on new deals starting this season and Raddysh played the majority of his 5v5 minutes against Matheson in the playoffs.

On-ice scoring chances against each other:
Tampa: 42
Montreal: 9

32 year old Matheson is now locked up till he is 37 at 6 million a year.
Here's his card at the time of signing a few months ago:

30 year old Raddysh's is now locked up till he is 38 at 8.5 million a year.

Who is the riskier contract?
Who would you rather have the next couple of years?

Yep, there has been a link since December.

I literally said about a week before it happened that there was going to be a trade for his rights and he was coming to Toronto. Had a few conversations at the arenas between march and a couple of weeks ago. Toronto was the place he wanted to be.

Looking back at the jfresh card from when Hedman signed his last deal you can see the regression defensively started long ago but he (and his teammates) were always able to outscore their opponants.

He did bounce back the next season a bit but, yea, last year was a trainwreck for him. If he can get his offensive game back up to where it was, he could be able to play out the rest of his contract as a postive player though.

....and I think managment is more worried than you are about Kucherovs next contract. With the cap exploding and Kaprizov making 17 million as a scoring winger, are you sure current MPV Kucherov is going to go that far below what hes worth after being on a great value contract?

All in all, Raddysh was leaving no matter what and Tampa was happy to get a 5th before he left but Tampa is still a desirable location for many reasons and attracting another good puck mover shouldnt be impossible.

I think they will take a run at John Carlson. Of course there is risk with his age but he’s a proven point producer.

I don’t have any clue what you’re even trying to say here. Try again
Marner was a top UFA and had no suitors outside of Vegas because Marner's mind was already made up. And I'm going to suggest to you that you could probably say the same thing about Raddysh that he just wanted to come to Toronto. Why? Because of family reasons.
