Oddly, the responses from others on here is that he isn't a good skater. When I searched out a scouting report, it suggested the opposite.

Feels like that’s always the default “con” when it comes to more obscure lower rated prospects.

Like I said, I liked what I saw when he played with the Marlies, just wondering why he was never drafted, that’s all.

The real answer is he had questionable work ethic. He took shifts off, blew his own zone a lot and did not work hard there, he was a volume shooter who did have a good shot but looked off teammates far too often, and he was generally inconsistent.

He improved his work ethic a lot. He learned to pass a little bit more. Skating improved after only being around average. Defensive effort was a lot better but he still needs development in his own end if he wants to consider that a strength.

He is still raw in many regards so that is probably why teams still passed him up, but he looked dominant in his 13 games with us last year and the Leafs probably think they can iron out the rest of his issues now that the fatal flaws are less severe.

This is also why I think the Leafs are keeping close tabs on James Hardie right now. Very similar prospect profile and issues.
 
Holy crap......Pavel's English is top notch. Barely any accent either. Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but it's something a very dedicated person would do......learning the language that well. A good sign.
