That being said, it wouldn't completely suprise me to see a young team pick him up

One thing to note, Leafs did something with Wayne Simmonds where they waived him but he stayed with the team (despite being on the Marlies roster for cap reasons). Obviously wasn't able to play or practice but was still with the group because he brought a lot to the room.

I bet if he is unclaimed this happens as well. He will stay with the team working out and being a big guy in the room until the playoffs then be recalled to the roster as a depth forward
