The Leafs ran him as 1RW last year. Being pass-only playing with Matthews is not a bad thing and allows them to move Marner elsewhere. I don't love the term but Domi is legitimately a top 10 passer in the league by primary rate so he still has value for that despite his other flaws.
He is a high-end passer, yes. He is poor elsewhere and is also legitimately one of the worst defensive players in the league.
He wasn't their primary 1RW last season. This is completely false. He was Matthews' 5th most common forward linemate. Yes he spent some time there and looked okay. It's not a long-term solution because playing Domi with Matthews essentially means you can't use Matthews in defensive situations, which is a big waste of a Selke calibre center.
