Proposal: TOR/DAL

Replace Carlo(@50%) with OEL(@50%) and you're getting closer. Dallas still says no.

They won't trade Rantanen or Hintz or Johnston or Heiskanen or Harley. They'll trade other guys and picks and prospects in order to build around those 5 guys.

If you want them to say yes, you'll have to overpay. Something insane like Matthews + Knies for Rantanen + Seguin. Or Knies + McKenna for Rantanen + Emil Hemming. Not even worth wasting time thinking about.

Knies - 7M
Carlo - 1.7M (50%)
Robertson - RFA

Rantanen - 12M

Harley is the guy Knies would be available for
Harley is a special combination of REALLY really good and still somewhat young and has a good cap hit locked up long term.

That's the kind of defenseman you simply DO NOT trade for a winger, unless we're talking like a top 5 winger in the league who's also young and has several years before UFA. You keep them, or you trade them for a D or center. Even extremely good wingers like Jason Robertson, Matt Boldy, Mikko Rantanen, Dylan Guenther, Kyle Connor, Cutter Gauthier... I would have to think hard about making Harley available for them, and in the end, I probably wouldn't. Knies is a step below those guys.

Man, there’s going to be a lot of GMs really pissed they didn’t meet the asking price for Knies lol.

I wouldn’t do him straight up for Harley and that’s not a joke or hyperbole.

Deal would have to be Harley + Bourque plus a 1st for Knies and something very small like Kyper has been saying

I disagree. Think Knies is fully capable of being a 80 point winger and with his tools that makes him a lot more valuable than most of those names for a lot of GMs.

Harley is the player they’d be interested in for a Knies trade. And Harley had a rough year. Lots of Stars fans were calling him an overpaid stiff after the playoffs this season. He’ll forever be blocked somewhat by Miro. If Dallas trades Robertson in a deal and has an opening for a top left winger, I think the trade can make sense for both teams.

That’s very. … steep . I think Knies and Harley probably have similar value . I’d love to get Bourque as well but don’t think this is it ^^^

If Harley becomes temporarily available because he had a rough season, and Dallas would consider doing Harley for Knies, then yes, Toronto should absolutely be all over that. I just don't think Dallas would consider doing it. Would love to be wrong though, I cheer for Toronto (and Pittsburgh).

Honestly, I can see Chayka offersheeting Bourque. Dallas has cap issues, and Bourque is the type of analytics plus player that matches what Chayka seems to be doing. Good skater, good defensively and young.

3 year, 4.75 for the cost of a second round pick would be worth it for me

I think Dallas would find a way to match that. Not enough of an overpay imo.

Possible but that would be the max for a second round pick that you can make. Would cause major issues across their roster constructions especially with Robertson.

Worth a shot and Chayka seems to be really active. I like Bourque a lot. Seems like the perfect fit for the Leafs third line.
