I thought the AAV for a 6 year deal would be 4.5-4.75 or it would be closer to 5.5 on a 5 year deal. That's a solid deal but I think he's going to be a wreck by year 5 lol

To be honest, the Leafs will not be competitive in 5 years I don't think so who cares. It's all about the next few years
They won't be competitive now either, with all the money tied up on forwards who disappear in the playoffs.

That said, best signing this team has made in a long time

Its a fair deal. The Leafs sure have some ugly contracts that are going to rear their heads in 3-4 years.

Since the introduction of the salary cap, this comment has been true. I've never known a Leafs team with no future cap headaches on the roster. But honestly even if in year 4 with the cap over 100M a solid #5 makes 4M.

Lots of those little overpayments add up though but whatever. If we haven't won by then we aren't winning lol

They need to go for it though. They’ve failed miserably so far. They won’t care if those contracts suck by then because the window will be closed.

Cap hit is full market rate but fair, but the term is going to get real ugly at 5 years when the guy is already 31 yrs old.
