To COL: Laughton
To TOR: Coyle

Both teams paid a decent price to acquire each player as a 3C solution at the deadline. Neither player was a slam dunk fit with their respective team. Colorado is now in a cap bind and Toronto has a ton of cap space. Both players are pending UFA as well. Colorado clears out 3.75M.

Coyle has an 8-team NTC that turns into a 3-team NTC on July 1st. I am not sure if Toronto would be on either list.

Laughton was a good fit come playoff time and he's a fraction of Coyle's cap-hit.. I don't see why Toronto would even consider this.

Laughton played 4C on paper and 3C minutes. Toronto needs someone who can play with Nylander, not someone who can play with Lorentz. The C market is very thin. They aren't finding someone who can play with Nylander in UFA. Also - taking on 3.75M for 1 year likely isn't a big deal in Toronto because they probably aren't signing any of the big UFAs (Marner, Marchand, Ehlers, Ekblad) and even if they did they'd still be able to absorb 3.75M with ease.

Both guy got their skills and that's why each team got them @ the deadline
I don't see a fit in a trade for 1 vs 1 for both team

Personally it's an easy no. Absolutely no interest in moving Coyle. Very much looking forward to being a big strong team down the middle next year.

But, I unfortunately am not entirely convinced the Avs see it that way and wouldn't be surprised if they were looking at Coyle and the 3C spot as an opportunity to gain cap space to make other moves.

We really don't need to move him and we aren't in a bad spot cap wise at all, but we'll see.

I'd still say Coyle holds more value though. I'd be looking for a pick attached to Laughton to make this deal.

Coyle was recently photographed in a full arm cast. He scored 13 points in 19 games before struggling in the playoffs. It is easy to write his struggles off as injury related.

I don't see Colorado moving on from him. Personally, I would reject this trade. The Avalanche have had way too many moving pieces the last few years. I want to see what Coyle can do with a full off-season.
