man to think all of that Lehtonen hype culminated into him being moved for an AHL backup goalie.

Could be but didn't Lehtonen have good numbers in the KHL ?? How many NHL goalies are 6' tall at the moment ??

No special numbers for lehtonen until he was 25 or so.

Agreed though that it's tough for 6'0" goalies to make it. Like Bernier.

This is true .. the Dermott-Bogo pairing has been rock solid, as good as you'd like out of your third pairing. And with Sandin and Liljegren on deck there's some insurance policy for the playoffs.
Sandin is on deck for f*** all

geesuz Burt,,,,,,,,, the kid has played 1 game in the last calendar year and is on the IR with a pretty bad injury

I get their reasons for not making a lineup change, but is that the best possible deal they could get for Lehtonen? I'm shocked that they couldn't get more than an AHL goalie with (very) average stats for the best Dman in the KHL and a guy who hasn't shown to look out of place when given a shot in our lineup

Some nice flashes of offensive ability and skating but what concerned me was his size in the corners.. Looked small there and easily pushed around, not super strong on his skates.

Wasn't wowed by his skating either, especially his first step.

And while he was just feeling his way into the league I was kinda disappointed by his lack of offensive aggressiveness especially on the pp.

I personally look forward to Dermott blowing his knee out next game with Sandin already hurt opening the door for the return of MARTIN MARINCIN

You just f***ed up my weekend, even though I will have my first NHL game as a colour commentator tomorrow, here in Hungary.
Bruins - Rangers lol. I'll try to be nice and polite.

Wish me luck.

Entirely possible it's like Leivo. Guy probably didn't come all the way over to not play. Dubas could just be treating him respectfully.

No,,,,,,,, i am not,,,,,,,,, every one knows D depth is needed for the POs

we have lilly with 11 NHL gp ,,,,,,and???? and????

Well, that's more than Lehtonen has. If Keefe isn't even willing to use Lehtonen on back-to-backs to rest someone, is he really that useful as depth?

The trade deadline isn't even close .. Let's give it until then until we start freaking out about depth.

As it stands, health wise:

Liljegren
Marincin
Rosen

Are the next up.. Sandin slots in there somewhere when he returns and gets some games in.

Lehtonen couldn’t steal away any playing time from Dermott or Bogosian and Columbus has had a pretty good history with goalies recently.

It’s worth the gamble. Lehtonen was a pending free agent anyways.

Step off the ledge man. Sandin will be playing again within two weeks. It wasn't a "pretty bad injury", it's a fracture from blocking a shot.

It's too bad that we moved Lehtonen, but he didn't force his way onto our lineup, and he needs a chance to play somewhere. Sometimes you make a deal, to preserve your reputation, and ability to sign KHL guys in the future.

Don't forget that we've also got Rosen on the taxi-squad, who was very solid with the Marlies this year as well. We have Marincin and Rosen as LD, until Sandin is back, which shouldn't be too long. Leafs stated that they'd be looking at him, and updating mid March...

I can understand trading Lehtonen for a goalie, but damn if Vehviläinen isn't an underwhelming return. Not good enough for this to make any sense.

This is what I'm thinking, and of course they have a Fin GM to so maybe there was some understanding there, but I wish we had more opportunity to see what he could do, but I love how Dubas treats his players gotta respect that.

It's a good move imo even though I like Lehtonen and wish he got a shot. If he isn't the type of defenceman we need I'm glad Dubas moved him to get more playing time.

It's a good message to future free wallets that they won't rot in the minors.

While it's a pity he never quite did manage to establish himself here, hope he gets a good second chance with the Jackets.

Smart of the Leafs to make the player and agent happy. Keeps that pipeline open
