Toronto
Might have seen this on the board already not sure.. but

To Calgary: William Nylander
To Toronto: Elias Lindholm

Simple 1 for 1 swap, both players are entering the last year of there deals, gives Calgary a good winger and a chance to resign him, while Lindholm might want to test FA/go to another team. Toronto gets back a 2nd line center to be able to move JT to the wing as he's too slow for 2nd line C and save's Toronto some money now and possibility in the future, and might not want to pay the money Nylander is going to want. (I'd imagine Lindholm is going to cost less to resign then Nylander).

Calling Lindholm a 2C is disingenuous

I don't think the value is so far off that Toronto couldn't add to get there, but Calgary is literally trading away their best player in this deal for a position that they already have pretty solid options in with Toffoli, Mangiapane, and Coleman

Hell f***in no C>RW, even if Lindholm doesn’t want to resign I would rather trade for futures. Also Lindholm will want a higher AAV than Nylander.

This would only work if Hanifin/Toffoli/Tanev etc returns a top 6 center

Toronto adds something pretty significant. Like that late 1st rounder. Lindholm is better, lower AAV and also a C.

I don’t think it makes much sense on either sides

Nylander probably doesn’t get Lindholm 1 for 1. I don’t want to add something significant on for a rental. It’s essentially a swap of rentals. Lindholm would also want more AAV than nylander, considering his body of work and being a C so I don’t see the point of even doing extended trades as we need to save cap, not use even more on 4 guys

Calgary would be much better off getting futures for him from a team that has the capspace for Lindholm.

But what if Elias Lindholm really doesn’t want to resign with the Flames?

Calgary isn’t going to just let their best player walk out the door without exploring the trade market.
Then there will be multiple teams in on it. Including teams like the Avs.

But Colorado doesn’t have a Nylander that their offering up.

The Avs could offer multiple 1sts but that would be ill advised considering the Avalanche prospect pool is very shallow and devoid of any high end talent.

They're scared of a pending UFA so they trade him for another pending UFA? If lindholm doesn't want to re-sign why would they be so certain nylander would?

Flames can’t add that much salary. So doesn’t matter

Marner for Lindholm and a defenceman would be an interesting swap in my mind.

Challenge is... Hanifin is also a UFA, which puts a ton of risk on Toronto if trading MM for a couple of impending UFAs, and Andersson is probably viewed as a building block in Calgary.

Maybe you do something like Marner for Lindholm & Mangiapane as the NHL pieces moving.
