Proposal: Top Six Montreal Canadiens

All of this isnt even close to getting us a top 6 player. Trading Plekanec would make another hole in the top6. Andrighetto is the only one with decent value but he's already shown he can play in the middle 6 and is still progressing... he's worth more to us than to other teams at this point so not worth moving.

We would have to deal Scherbak/McCarron/Sergachev to get a top6 forward, it's gotta hurt somewhere... we can still sign hudler or another ufa for a year or 2 rather than hurt our prospect pool. MB missed the boat yet again. And Sergachev is going nowhere anyway

After last season, Condon needs a year in the AHL to re-build his confidence. So no team s parting with a top 6 LW for a goalie who is slotting in the AHL.

The rest are good players, but not the quality you get a top 6 or top pairing in return for.

Unles the Habs are willing to offer Hudon?, McCarron, Sergachev, Beaulieu, plus a good pick (1st rnd), it's a non starter. This would be the minimum it would take.

This is exactly how I see it. For a while, our top-6 was a top-4 (Pacioretty, Plekanec, Galchenyuk, Gallagher) and a revolving door of players completing the other two spots. With the addition of Radulov, our top-4 now becomes a top-5. The opening for that sixth spot will be looked to be filled internally. Reway, Lehkonen, Hudon, and Scherbak is who I see fighting for that spot. And with Shaw playing first line, second line, and third line duties in Chicago, he is also a very good option to round out the top-6.

Our biggest need is left defense. Beaulieu could benefit the most from this opportunity to play with Weber. But he hasn't assured with certainty. So Habs might look to move pieces to feel more secure on the left side in defense. Fowler is the most popular option.
 
I think the Habs are pretty much done till training camp or beyond. They'll give Markov and Beaulieu the opportunity to play with Weber. Andrighetto or Shaw will start in the top-6.

If anything moving Weise, DSP and Eller and replacing them with Shaw makes us rather small, especially in the bottom-6. This could be a place we address and is cheaper to address. Sorry, I don't think McCarron is ready, maybe De La Rose but we can add a good player and still start these two in the AHL.
 
Plekanec will be a tantalizing TDL move for a Cup contender. That's about it.
 
I doubt the Habs can get a top-6 wingers with those players. The Habs best shot to find one, and ONLY if they find the right team for it, would be to dig in their top prospects pool and offer guys like Scherbak, Lehkonen, Sergachev, Juulsen...maybe a Fucale. Most likely in a package.

Other than that, our best option at finding another top-6 forward would be to sign Shipachyov or one of the remaining UFAs like Hudler. And I don't see Bergevin going that way, at least, not for the later.

Tomas Plekanec (C): Pleks is the perfect #2 center, will produce around 60pts/yr.. make his winger better .. can play defensive game and one year still left as his contract.

We have the other; Brian Flynn, Paul Byron and the picks.

Then you have the team you deserve and you'll end up overpaying to get the missing pieces. You can't have it both ways. Enjoy Coach Numbnuts.
 
The players offered in the OP won't get us anything close to a top-6 player. However the Habs could indeed use a top-6 left winger. Available are two pieces out of McCarron, Scherbak, Juulsen and the 1st round pick in 2017. What would you offer?

False. The roster is complete.

You play the season with these guys, allowing one of 6 prospects to stand out, and if none earns the spot by the end of the year, you trade for a top winger to get a shot at the Stanley Cup.

That's it.

Hartnell could be a solution if he wants to play in Montreal. Foligno,too.

But Columbus has to take some salaries back because the Habs are reaching the top of the cap.

Options; Desharnais or Emelin + a one guy like Matteau, Flynn, Michell or Andrighetto.
 
I could see the Jets trading Stafford between now and the TDL assuming they aren't fighting for a playoff spot. 21 goals last year for the Jets, playing between 1st to 3rd lines.
 
Hartnell does seem like the kind of player Bergevin would be interested in. But considering his contract, I wouldn't touch him unless CBJ is willing to take Desharnais in return, just to shed some salaries and save two years of contract.

Other than that, I'm staying away.

Edit: Also, what would happen to his NMC ? If the Habs were to acquire him, would they be able to void his NMC, would it be void automatically since Hartnell would've agreed to a trade ? Cause getting Hartnell with a full NMC would also impact our protection list for the upcoming expanssion draft. Probably means one of Danault or Hudon goes to LV.

since we ain't gonna get rid of him, Maybe try DD on 2nd line left wing, and give Sherbak or Lehkonen another year to develop in the ahl before making the jump
 
I don't see a pressing need to acquire another top 6, especially at the cost of top prospects. The Radulov signing filled a massive hole on rightwing. The 2nd line LW spot can be adequately filled internally by one of Andrighetto, Hudon, Carr, Shaw. Other than a patented Marc BargainBin depth pickup, I don't see any moves being made.
 
pleks for a similar contract winger may be possible....would have to be a guy 30+ making at least 5 mil though. hartnell? pominville? Gaborik?

And who will be the other center in the top6 apart from Galchenyuk with Plekanec gone?

Trading Plekanec is a mistake. Habs are set with 1C and 2C. Trading Plekanec and replacing with Shipachev is risky. I would love to add Shipachev and have Plekanec as 3C playing with Shaw or as 2C with Shipachev on the left side.

Habs have numerous prospects that are ready or will be in one year. The real trading prospects are Andrighetto, Lehkonen, Carr, Reway, & JDR. Package two of these with DD or Emelin and a 2017 1st round pick and you may get something in return (Fowler??). Any other player you mentioned above is not trade value but simply throw in's.

Trading Plekanec opens up a huge hole at center

I would not trade McCarron, Hudon, Scherbak, Juulsen, or Sergachyov unless the return is huge and cap friendly for years!

I much rather trade DD or Emelin as salary dump and try to get Shipachev! Trading DD or Emelin (with prospect) for a draft pick solves two problems. Cap room and one less player to protect for upcoming expansion draft!
