Often, many people share the opinion the team getting the best player in a trade, wins the trade. That is often correct.

What are some examples of Quality for Quantity where the Qty side came out the winner ?

As a Ducks fan, and with Noesen scoring his 1st NHL goal last night, the Ryan trade (Silf, Noesen and the pick that was used for Ritchie) is obviously a great one.

Any others in the past 15-20 years or so that spring to mind ?

Note: I don't count the Lindros trade as that had very specific circumstances.

Neither of those are "quantity". The Thornton trade and Nash trade also the Gaborik trade (kinda) is a quantity trade

Dion Phaneuf for Colin Greening, Milan Michalek, Jared Cowen, Tobias Lindberg and a 2nd.

Lindberg is proving to be a solid prospect who should crack the NHL as a bottom 6 forward., an additional top 60 pick for Mark Hunter, a 750K cap credit (Cowen) and getting rid of Phaneuf and his contract.

Sure, we have to bury Michalek and Greening this year, but that's like, 1% an issue.

TOR trades Beauchemin to ANH for Lupul, Gardiner and a 4th round pick.

Lupul rebounded to a 1st liner and Gardiner stepped in as a 2nd pairing D less than a year later.

And Beauchemin didn't elevate his game to become a legit top pairing guy until 2 or more years (and a new contract?) after this.

I don't think that's a win for the quantity side, on account of the fact none of the pieces that came back for phaneuf have positively contributed yet. That trade is a wait and see. Michalek, Cowan, and greening we know won't provide value. So it falls on lindberg and hunter to out produce phanuef.

Not having Phaneuf or his contract has positively contributed.

Cowen's buyout provided us value

Greening was solid down the stretch last year. It's not a lot, but it's some value.

Leafs are stoked with pretty much everything we got. Only Michalek is a "loss" for us

Nash for Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon and a pick has worked out pretty well from a Columbus perspective.

I wouldn't say CBJ got the best of this. They have only reached the playoffs once since this was made and you only have Dubinsky left over. Anisimov was strong and has done very well at Blackhawks but I think this trade wasn't a huge success for Columbus.

Nash helped the Rangers to continuous playoff appearances including SCF and ECF as well as having a 40 goal season. His form has dipped recently but the only thing missing here is a Stanley cup itself.

The first 2 that came to my mind as well. The Kessel trade would look even better had Seguin and/or Hamilton stayed in Boston.

I think the Nash trade above is another good example considering what CBJ wanted, but it served NYR pretty well so it is more of a win-win I guess

This part isn't true. Beachemin took about a year from the point that the trade was made to get back to his old, top pairing form. By the latter half of the 2012 season he was playing like a top pairing defenseman, again. The rest of that year's team needed work, and if memory serves there were at least ten players shipped out and replaced.

I liked Gaborik for Brassard, Dorsett and Moore, even though none of them is on the team now, but Brassard's years here were great and he gave us a great return (Zibanejad + 2nd). And Moore and Dorsett were decent depth players in our run to the finals in 2014.
And Gaborik was playing horribly that season and looked done.

Seems to be a rose-coloured glasses theme running through some of this.
Lot of these fallacies being used:
The big name guy my team traded away is overrated.
My prospect who hasn't established himself as an NHL player is awesome.
I'll use/ignore a subsequent trade in a way that benefits my argument.
How well each team performs after the trade is irrelevant
