Half the fan-base wants to ship him out because he's the only piece we have outside of the kids/our 1st that will return a high-end defensive prospect.
JVR could get 40g this year and a Maple Leaf neck-banger and people would still be looking to trade him. Our defense is THAT bad.

If that's the only reason, why does a good chunk of the Leafs board rip the guy pretty constantly?

And yes, as i had mentioned earlier in the thread, he's definitely our best trade chip moving forward, but he should not be shipped out the door for a 3C, and a LW prospect.

Because the Leafs have a lot of foolish fans.

The Toronto media and some of our fanbase like rough and tough two way players that hit and act like "good ol'Canadian boys" JVR is somewhat one dimensional and not noticeable when he's not scoring. People here don't appreciate that type of game as much as some other fanbases. There were fans that had similar feelings about Kessel when he was a ppg player. Obviously PhIl was useful to the Penguins and I'm sure JVR can find a similarly useful spot with a contending team. I don't mind moving him for the right piece but I'm not in a rush to ship him out either.

Funny thing is, the media hasn't said squadoosh about JVR....just a bunch of rambling HF posters...

He can be very noticeable in a negative way when he's not scoring. What fanbases appreciate that type of game?

Toews could really benefit from a top line winger better than Panik or Motte. What's out there for an upgrade? Too bad the Hawks couldn't keep Saad, he fit in really well with Toews.

Any chance the Hawks can land Blake Wheeler from the Jets?

Blake is our captain and was 6th in league scoring last season. He is set to takeoff once line mates Little and Perrault come back from injury. The price would be more than you would be ready to pay, niklas-hjalmarsson

If anything, I'd try to get Dano back, but Q would probably just refuse to play him and we'd end up trading him again.:laugh::laugh:

That contract is going to drown the Hawks in a few years.

When you earn ~$2M more than Sidney Crosby, you should be able to produce with anyone (just ask Pascal Dupuis). Funnily enough, when you make that much money, you almost guarantee yourself subpar wingers.

Those contracts (along with the rest of the core they signed) are already drowning them. CHI fans now get to experience what PIT fans did when Malkin and Crosby were each making 8.7m against a 56.8m cap.

Have fun with that.

Reminder: Our GM isn't as bad as Shero and our coach isn't as bad as Bylsma.

Because he doesn't pass the eye test of the unbiased pro scouts we have on the Leafs board, his soft plays and laziness always seems to get magnify yet when someone like Nylander makes the same mistake you wont see anyone comment about it, I wonder why that is.

The Jets are, for better or worse, a franchise built on loyalty to its players. They won't trade their captain to help your slumping captain, and there is nothing you have that would entice them to.

You do realize that just last season the Winnipeg Jets *did* trade their captain to Chicago, right?

Well the issue is that he's not worth $10.5m. He's about $3-3.5m overpaid, which would be valuable cap space. I think the Hawks' best hope is that they can keep finding good guys on the their ELC's. Stockpiling 2nd round picks and drafting guys who fall could help. :dunno:

As a Hawks fans I wouldn't trade Kruger or Schmaltz straight up for JVR even with retention. Krueger is better at hockey than JVR AINEC. Kruger does things that help you win, JVR does things that frustrate the crap out of you and every so often he contributes a highlight reel play.

Leafs would be lucky to have a guy like Kruger centering the 3rd or 4th line.
