Toews could really benefit from a top line winger better than Panik or Motte. What's out there for an upgrade? Too bad the Hawks couldn't keep Saad, he fit in really well with Toews.

Any chance the Hawks can land Blake Wheeler from the Jets?

They already have 14 players making under 1 million. How do you expect them to get a top line winger for Toews. Not to mention Panarin will be RFA following this season. Also, no they can't land the new captain of a division rival who just put up 78 points and is playing well to start this year.

They really cuffed themselves with Kane and Toews contracts... Even if they were 1mil less that would make a difference.

Toews has like 6 points in the last 6 games playing with a rotating cast of rookies on his LW, and the team hasn't lost in regulation in like 12 games.

And that's with Kane playing at a less than stellar level on his RW (hence his possession numbers crashing when Kane moved up the lineup....when Panik and Motte are doing a better job of driving shot differential, then you know it's time to pick it up).

This seems like trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist... worst case scenario they can move Hossa up and Kane back down to the 2nd line, but it might be a while, because Hossa is doing a better job on than 2nd line than Kane did.

Its funny how over rated toews got now he is 1 of highest paid players and you are desperate to find him help. I pay a guy 10.5 and he better be able to produce on his own.

JVR@50% retained would be about 2.125.

JVR retained + Smith (4th line C replacement) for Kruger + what?

The Jets are, for better or worse, a franchise built on loyalty to its players. They won't trade their captain to help your slumping captain, and there is nothing you have that would entice them to.

I don't think the Hawks can afford a top-line winger.

So, best offer is a lightly-used Drew Stafford for a 2nd.

Chicago has nothing they could offer that would be of any interest for JVR. Your prospects and young players just aren't that good. And the Leafs don't need any Vets.

This x 1000

That contract is going to drown the Hawks in a few years.

When you earn ~$2M more than Sidney Crosby, you should be able to produce with anyone (just ask Pascal Dupuis). Funnily enough, when you make that much money, you almost guarantee yourself subpar wingers.

For reference, the answer from the Blue Jackets is going to be "no", and it kinda doesn't matter who you're asking for.

10.5M + 10.5M + 1M = 22M.

22M line should score a lot.

JVR@50 for Kruger,Schmaltz,1st rd pick?

So retain on our best trade chip in order to downgrade at LW, fill a "hole" at 4th line centre, that would just be filled internally by Gauthier next year, and get a likely very high 1st.

All while not filling our top need - another decent top 4 (or potential top 4) Dman.

Are we just eager to help the Hawks out?

Does Schmaltz project that much better then what we have coming in LW prospects? Leivo, Leipsic, Rychel, Johnsson, Timashov, Korshokov, Grundstrom. Do we really need to trade our best asset to get him?

I am too busy to research now

Nash, 7.8 fits the bill
we want to move 2 NMCs, Staal 5.7 + Girardi 5.5
that's a total of 19

Is there a balance for Hawks
we can consider bad contract if they are not NMC

start w/Seabrook, 7.0
that leaves 12m over what, 3 or 4 guys?
should be do-able in theory

do we have a match on names and numbers

mutual back scratch
W for Toews
lose NMCs for Rangers

if ya wanna add another 4.5 for Zuc
would consider even bigger deal if there is a win win match

Just don't even try. Moving about 40 million of cap hits in total is outlandish.

Shinny new toy. A prospect and a pick >> a top 6 winger. JVR has 11 points in 15 games, but reading our board you'd think he has 0 and falls over each time he steps on the ice.

No idea why he is the new whipping boy.
