Value of: Top 6 LW to PHI

The Flyers look to have a legit chance to improve on their season standings this year and could get through a round or two in the playoffs. IMO they are lacking a Top 6 LW to play with Giroux. As it stand their top 6 looks like this:

Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds/Voracek
Raffl-Couturier-Voracek/Simmonds

Raffl is not a top 6 winger. He is a versatile bottom 6 guy that has some scoring ability. If they Flyers could land a top 6 LW via trade (i.e. Landeskog, Skinner, Kane) they could actually push for top spot in their division and be a legit threat this year.

Their new top 6 could look something like this:

Landeskog/Kane/Skinner-Giroux-Simmonds
Schenn-Couturier-Voracek

BTW, I know Landeskog is a long shot but would look amazing in Orange and Black.

Would there a deal to be made out there? Would a package of Streit, Laughton/Konecky and Morin land you a TOP 6 LW? I'm not saying that I would trade those for Skinner or that it's enough for Landeskog but it's worth a discussion...

How is the cap space in Philly? I know the Rangers have some top 6 guys available. I know Philly isn't about to do us any favours but if you want to take Girardi or Staal that would be nice too, we'll give you future considerations.

Philly has about 1 million in cap space.

They are not touching Staal or Girardi.

Adding a LW would be nice, but I would much rather add a good #3 C for the next 2-3 years to bridge the gap to Rubstov. Konecny could make the team as early as this year to fill a top 6 scoring winger role.

Laughton is moving to wing and i fully expect him to compete for a spot in the top 6. While not the sniper we all want there he should bring a little more speed and energy. The flyers are really a year or so away from making any significant moves. There is just too many factors yet to be determined.

Adding a LW no makes us good and more complete, but that's not too important right now. We just want to improve on last year. Getting a guy to fill the gap now may cost a spot to a young player in the future or even this year. It's somewhat similar to our D over the last few years. If we added a D we would have been better but it would have taken a spot from a player.

If a young D would be in the mix, I think that Nyquist / Tatar would be a great fit next to Giroux or Couturier.

Agreed. With expansion next year, I think Hextall uses this year as a wait and see year and will add someone thru the year if a jump in development is not seen from guys like Laughton or Cousins.

I expect next summer for Philly to make a move or 2 to push to contender status instead of playoff contender status.

There lies the problem for Philly. Adding either guy would be nice. But replacing Manning, Schultz, and Streit is more important....especially when 2 of those guys are UFA's next summer.

Philly needs Sanheim and Morin to replace those guys....especially since MDZ could be in the move too unless he re-signs. Provy isn't moving. And Myers is too many years away(and not worth enough) to help Detroit now.

Philly needs to keep this wave of players on the verge of cracking the lineup. They have too many holes opening next summer.

I feel like that's not enough for Landy or Skinner and might be too much for Kane. Just my opinion on that package. I'm not entirely sure if Philly should try to trade for a LW when they have Konecny trying to make the roster. Give the spot to him and if he does well, great if he doesn't then you try to trade for someone else

We're all hoping Konecny can impress and take that spot. Otherwise, Hextall will probably just be patient the next year or 2 for all the defenders to make their way up to the big club.

I view it that since we are waiting 1 more year for Morin and Sanheim to make the NHL, might as well wait for Konecny, Lindblom and Aube Kubel at the same time at forward.

Then after seeing how expansion plays out, make the moves you want. The picture will be much clearer by then....especially regarding Laughton and Cousins as this will be an important "prove it" year.

Dustin Brown can play LW and some Kings fans believe he is not playing top 6 because of his relationship with Sutter:sarcasm: (well :sarcasm: to the fact Philly would want him)

Brown for MacDonald :naughty:

We should recreate the Leafs flyers trade from years ago.

Top flight defensive prospect for big scoring winger!

JVR for Provorov :sarcasm:

Yeh, I see it the same.

In an ideal world our forward group would have another ~45-50+pt LW and a ~30-35pt, defensive stalwart of a 3C... then as a group it would be; on paper, good enough to contend.

But we are not in shape to win more than 1 playoff round in 16-17 at best... and we now have quite a few young forwards right on the horizon/developing in the NHL.

Definitely best to see how chips fall in next ~year before making a move... Konecny could instantly be the ~45+pt top 6 guy we need and Lindblom could come in as a good two-way 3LW... and then the only spot we would have to fill is 3C... and that would be the spot we would trade something for.

Evander Kane would be easiest to acquire...do you want the hassle though?

Well hes probably better defensively then both but that is ok i understand believe me I wish i didn't have to see him top 6 either

Schenn... yes, for sure...

But I take Raffl over him defensively tbh.

Raffl is a player that flies under the radar... but his CA/60 rel since he entered the league is 8th in the NHL for forwards, and he has ~53% corsi and +3.5 corsi rel in that time... he faces pretty tough QoC too.

The only reason Raffl is not talked about more as a good defensive winger is that he does not really PK... though he is really good when he does actually!
