Unless Backlund wants to go hes not going anywhere. And it would clearly be to a top contender as well. I can't imagine a scenario where he wants to go to Buffalo. May as well stay here.

Josh Anderson from the Habs maybe a new team no pressure could be a good option. The value is pretty low.

Anderson ans Farrell for Krebs and a 4th round pick?
Anderson is not a top six forward, and probably has a negative value right now. If he didn't, he would already be gone.

Looking to move futures (we have them) for either scoring or d-acumen in the top 6, in order to end this miserable drought.

Who's out there?
Bowen Byram for Ross Colton? Avs can throw in a Sean Behrens or Oskar Olausson as a prospect.

Colton was terrible as a 3C, but he looks fantastic as a puck hound LW on the top six and on PP 2 in the bumper.

This Casey Mittelstadt fellow is great. Best 2C the Avs had had in ages. Even better than the inconsistent Kadri. Thanks!

All these Flames fans, and no one mentioned Kuzmenko? Bottom line, Flames have a lot of options for the Sabres - take your pick. What do you guys offer up? We could take a cap dump, but love prospects & picks.

Pettersson.
Not to be patronizing or anything but as a Sabres fan I don't really get why you'd give up on a player like that.
He may have a peculiar personality but don't all athletes in some way at the end of the day? Slow start? You could trade one third of all players every year, it feels like.
You are lucky enough to have a young center who has proven he can produce north of 100 points you lick your chops and find a way to make the rest work. But that's just me.

Now, if you're still hell-bent on trading him, let's talk business. What's the ask?

Normally I’d agree with you but it’s beginning to seem like he’s not happy in Vancouver and was talked into agreeing to the extension because it made sense to do so. This is obviously just speculation as I have no idea what’s going on, but I think any potential injury is a very small part of it and it’s more mental than physical.

I would imagine they would be looking for a replacement #2 center and a top 4 defenseman back in return as part of any package if a trade is made in season.

This poster understood the assignment, that's a fitting suggestion.
Not sure how well Granlund would work in Ruff's system which relies on speed and short high intensity shifts, though.
What would be the ask from San Jose?
do you have a guy 3rd line-ish you can bump up?
If yes, Vesey is a solid bottom 6 stopgap, cheap cap hit
Rs want to make room for Rempe

ask is Vesey + 6th for a 5th

You guys have more insight than I do, but it feels kind of illogical to me that someone with options would sign such a contract without wanting to be there. Anyway.

The Sabres might just be the team to be a fit as a trading partner here. Like someone else suggested, Cozens + Byram as a starting point?

Pass. Sabres need top 6, their bottom 6 is fine. Also, we know Vesey, he's been here, way too small a fish to even bother. Also, isn't he on LTIR?

yes but projected to be coming off soon

If you are looking to add an actual top 6 w/zero in house promotion, Granlund might be your best bet, tho all rentals are costly

I think that’s something that might interest them should they go that direction.

What’s the deal with Cozen’s though, he himself appears like he’s having his own struggles. I’ve read some narratives that he’s looking more like a winger than a center at the NHL level?
